Home brewing kits ....

new brew in the fermenter. cooper real ale. used kit plus 1kg of brew enhancer and .5kg brewers sugar. OG is 1042. hoping it will be about 5% at the end. smells lovely and bubbling away nicely. this one for the keg. all for xmas.

then straight onto the mexican cervexa. all for the bottles that one for xmas. are screw cap PETs ok for this?

Right, I've been putting off starting another brew because of the complete pita of cleaning and sterilizing 40 bottles for far too long. What's that sterilization tool thing called that you fill with fluid and then just pump the bottle on a couple of times to sterilize it? Also after a good bottle tree for 1 pint glass bottles if anyone knows a good one?

Any suggestions for a nice Belgium style beer too?

Why don't you just get something like Starsan and make up a solution in a FV and just rinse out the bottles in that to sanitize? It's rinse-free as well.

Yeah I tend to use the PETs for my cheaper kits, not had any problems with them and they hold the gas as well as the glass.

what FV are u using there, i want a tap in mine and bottling thingy.

The coopers kit one that comes with everything included.

Just pulled my coopers euro lager out of my temp controlled bath after 3 weeks at 13 degrees and again that method has given me a lovely low FG. Now to leave it 2 days to rest and check before bottling and then 100 days for conditioning :(

I've an Autralian pale ale that's about done for drinking and an Aussie lager which was a present but I don't have high hopes for it. I've a feeling it will end up in the sink!

Don't worry that the pictures are wrong, it's the new kit you get :)

I personally would get it from one of the shops that let you swap out the kit aussie lager for another of your choice :)

Even tesco sell them

But as I say you would be stuck with the aussie lager kit which to me is a waste of £13 worth of the price of the kit. I'd recommend trying the candian blonde as an alternative with brew enchancer 1 which comes in the coopers kit anyway.

i have ordered th 80 bottle tree from the home brew company. £19. they also do the press down bottle cleaner/steriliser for an additional £18 which goes on top. i didn't order that as only have 24 bottles.

Cheers.

I've only got one FV at the moment. I do need a rinse free steralizer fluid though.

Trying to decide what to bottle for Christmas, i want to crack on with it this weekend, ive got a choice of Coopers Stout or Coopers Larger. Anyone tried these? recommendations? :)

Yea i realised it a bit late but ive only just got the right number of bottles for a brew:D took me a bit longer to get though them than i thought lol

Is Aussie lager the one you have? I did one of those about 2 months ago and tested it the other week. I will give it another month and if it still tastes like poo will just poor it away and reclaim my bottles for something better.

I think you may as well give up on having anything for xmas, sadly. My Euro lager I bottled won't be touched for 12 weeks. If I was you I would just get a quality kit on for the new year :)

well, my cooper real ale which is a modest 5.3% ish is kegged and tasted lovely when i tried it so that should be great for xmas.

just bottling my cerveza which is 4.5% ish and the bottling drainer is awesome bit if kit. i am going to use a sterilised measuring jug to fill the bottles as i dont want the hassle of using the pipe. need to get a tap and bottle filler soon.

Well I've had a success with my Young's Mild - it's kegged now and has come out very creamy and tasty, if a little low in ABV.

However, my Woodforde's Wherry which I bottled tastes fine, but is a tiny bit flat. I used 750ml glass Grolsch-style bottles but only used 1/2 a tsp sugar which might not have been enough. I've left it somewhere warm. But it's only been a week so perhaps it'll carbonate a bit more? Fingers crossed.

So i decided to brew the stout in the end, man it smelt soooo good when i was mixing it up, i used the malt extract instead of the brewing sugar which someone suggested doing on youtube. Ive got to bottle it this weekend, i have a question tho, as Stout isnt really that fizzy, how many sugar drops should i use when priming?

On one had i want a nice strong beer 5% but i also dont want it being as fizzy as champagne lol

Anyone experienced with the stout?
