HoN

Loving the total lottery that is matchmaking. Just had a game with 3 noobs vs 2, everyone else decent skill and managed to pull off a win. Their pyro raged all the way and was pretty much crying by the end of it.

I still havnt tried LoL.. I can't get over the graphic style compared to HoN.. and I don't like the fact it appears to be watered down. No creep deny? No tower deny? Where's the micro?

I've played a fair amount of LoL and I would say it's half way between hon EM and non EM.
Gold from creeps is much less, and auto attack/push towers is effective like in EM. The grass/fog really annoys me, all you need to do is stand in the grass patches and you become invisible until someone else comes in the same patch with you (or you exit/attack). So camping grass areas is much easier than hon, since you still retain vision even while you are hidden.

One of the best things about the LoL community is that its generally either silence or civility...raging, flaming etc is rather thin on the ground.

That is true, I think I've only seen 1 or 2 people rage in LoL.

I really like all my hon mods though, can't really live without them.

any tips and ideas for a good char for a newbie to start with ? :)

There are good heroes for beginners but then again you need a bit of knowledge and experience to appreciate why they're good for new players and how to capitalise on the advantages they offer.

I recommend swiftblade. His bread and butter spell is easy to put to good use, even for a new player. The most important thing and I cannot stress this enough is to NOT die. A player who finishes a game with 0/0/10 (kills/deaths/assists) is MUCH better than a player who finishes with 5/10/10. By the way get item and skill builds from the forums, the game is complicated enough at the start without factoring those things in.

This game has a huge learning curve but it's incredibly rewarding and has insane replay value (You can play the same hero in various ways due to skill and item builds). I played DotA a few months before moving onto HoN and I've played HoN for about 8 months now and I think I'm starting to properly understand the game now.

Edit

Wow, that's a lot of mods :) Do you not get compatibility issues?

I had some problems with the ability range indicator mod (so did everyone else) so it was not a compatibility issue, I think they have fixed that now though.
Auto ability learner, right click deny, quick stats, respawn timers and last hit assist mods are extremely useful.
The mod manager prevents you from applying mods that overlap in the same area of code.
