HoN

Wow, you weren't wrong about the community being a pack of ****s :o

Heh :p
I think a lot of it is down to the game being a team game. There are no more ****s than any other online game, it's just that when you have one bad player who's ruining it for your team it gets very annoying for the other 4 very fast.

In 1550+ games the community comes across as being a lot better, because people who are terirble at the game are much more sparse

No more ****s than in any other online game? Really?!? HoN has one of the worst communities I've come across in all my years of PC gaming. Being a team based game is no excuse for abusing someone when they make even the slightest mistake. By contrast LoL has a far more tolerant community, and its a very similar game. Yes its annoying when someone feeds the opposition but everyone has to start somewhere. Most HoN players don't seem to realise this.

I dunno. You get people flaming in both. One bad hero in LoL isn't as bad as in HoN. I'm not saying its right to flame people but there are a lot of people who will do something stupid over and over again, and then get offended when you tell them not to.
I'm hopeful that when the game is released the $30 cost will mean a lot of people are a lot less likely to be retards and abuse other people.
Everyone DOES have to start somewhere, and generally the best place for starting in HoN would be the 'Noobs Only' tier, rather than Noobs Allowed where you'll just get annihalated

You get flaming in LoL but nothing like in HoN and whereas Hon is stuck with Dota's forumla, Lol does look to see how it can reduce gank fests - take the recent champion amendments whereby kills of a champion 3 levels below gives negligible xp.

Demigods had flaming above LoL but again way below Hon, they are one of the worst online communities.

It is bad, and I must admit to contributing to it.

But when you have someone on your team calling you sad because you are explaining the game mechanics to the players that don't seem to understand it just rages me. There are so many wannabe pros and people rarely understand the stats as well. So people flaming me when I have 1 kill, 7 deaths and 11 assists makes me rage too because I've been contributing significantly.

Suffice to say, I put everyone in their place when the banter starts. I just can't avoid it, its seriously competitive and I love it. LoL has its place as the girly sister, but HoN is definitely for the men.

It was my very first game, I know nothing at all about it so I wanted to just jump in and pick it up as I went along. I made sure that I joined a game that said "noobs only" or something like that. A minute into the game and I'm getting shouted at by everyone and being told that my mother has cancer
Not my idea of fun :D I don't know if I could face another game, I'd probably need counselling afterwards.

If you enjoyed the game play style then it would be worth giving LoL a go http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18105400&page=3 and you don't need to pay a dime (ever if necessary) for the experience. Because of the way lol works your initial games really would be with New players, it also has a tutorial which I believe HoN is looking at doing (not before time I might add!)

HoN community is ace :D. motivates you to learn quickly isnt that hard to learn in reality if you just play all pick and learn for example the int heroes first and their item builds.

not played in ages :(

The problem is, losing sucks and if you get a bad start (or one of your allies does) it's difficult to recover, the game is generally very unforgiving.

Even over 1550 PSR you still get people that think they are the best thing since sliced bread (known as tryhards) that will shout at everyone and blame everyone else for their mistakes.
Generally as soon as the blame game starts, people concentrate more on flaming eachother and less on the game, and it's pretty much over.

Everyone that is higher up the ladder can look down on the lower guys and spot their obvious errors, happens all the way up.
The problem with noob games is that you get a massive variety of skill levels mixed together, so people spot a lot of errors and are very vocal, 1 person can pretty much lose the game all on their own and the other 4 players can just sit by and do nothing about it.
Even saying that, it is possible to win 4v5 in some games.

You gain/lose around 20-25 PSR each game, by the time you reach 1700 PSR you will generally only lose/gain ~10PSR per game, so people are generally more equal in terms of skill level.
If you want a decent game where everyone knows how to play most heroes and generally doesn't rage too much then you need to get to 1650-1700 PSR.

The other problem is that everyone wants to win, so lots of games are stacked in the hosts favour (playing with buddies etc.) or just playing below their level. People play on fresh accounts too.
There are good games to be had around 1500-1600 PSR though, but it's all relative to your own ability.

Even saying all of that, it's still a great game :D

I like team games but having to rely that much on other people just makes for a very frustrating game, so I suppose I can understand people getting shirty :D

The amazing thing with HoN is, you can have noobs leave at roughly lvl 10 and even if you are down to 3v5 it is beneficial to you.

Happened today with me. Succubus was completely retarded, stumbled into my solo lane at one point and after I shouted at him he stood in the fountain sulking and promptly DC. Then Armadon had a hissy fit saying 4v5 gg, and left. Me, Shaman and Wild Soul were left and we trounced the enemy.

3v5 is the limit though.. if you can't keep one person in each lane you give away too much gold.
