hose pipe ban - ideas on cleaning car

Just fill up a LARGE watering can and use that, may take a few trips to do the whole car, its ok if u do a panel or a section at a time that way it doesn't streak when you rinse it of as it won't have had time to dry, its what I use when I really don't want to mess getting the hose out.

but, if involves a hose pipe then you cannot.Even if you were to syphon out the water from your bath with a hose you will still be fined as the ban stops you from using a hose for any reason whatsoever

thats pretty ridiculous tbh, they are banning the use of a hose off the mains mate, not the use of hoses outright, if you have a look at the thames water site for example:http://www.thames-water.com/UK/region/en_gb/content/FAQ/FAQ_000051.jsp
Can I use a hosepipe to reuse wash water, i.e. from the bath or washing machine?

Yes, a hosepipe may be used to syphon water for reuse.

drive to a friends house in the north..its currently belting down again here
:D buy the time you get home you'll be back where you started thou (in more ways than one :p)

Fill the bath. Carry the bath out of the house. Pour over car. Soap and clean. Pour bath over car again. Put bath back in house. :p

I'd just use a bucket and do a few shuttle runs. Seems silly that you'd be allowed to do that but not use a hose. If they really wanted to enforce a ban, they ought to give each household a set amount of water a day or something like that. I doubt it'll put anyone off from cleaning cars, or having baths.

I reckon the rich people will just buy bottles of Evian and pour it over their cars instead :p

Buy a pack of Puritabs and chuck one into the water butt every now and then and it'll stop the water going green.

does anyone know what the penalty is? if its a fine then how much ?
Im pretty sure I heard the figure of either £1000 or £5000 (can't remember which) on the news on the radio the other day.

Pay a small child to do it then claim they didn't have your permission if they get caught?

Paying off a £1000 fine won't take long with the pocket money kiddies get today.

a grand!

sheesh, my tree hugging hippy neihbours will snitch on me for sure, need to work out a cunning plan . . . .

install an outdoor shower for your car :D

"its not a hose pipe, its a shower, sod off!"

What about if i just feed a pipe directly from the tap to the wall, with a sprinkler head on it :p

Thats not a hose, its a pipe, just like the ones to your sink :)

This is totally ridiculous. I pay good money to Bristol water every month for which I expect to be able to shower, drink, wash my car etc. Unless there's police sitting in my street watching I'm gonna completely ignore the ban and continue to wash my car as and when it needs it.
