How about a Linux gallery?

Try using the guide linked to earlier. It's a good bet it will work in Gutsy Gibbon or whatever it is called.

Richard: How the hell did you manage to get a screenie of the rotating cube!? Been trying on and off for ages and it aint happening! :(

Yeah - it had me swearing for a while too.

Go to your applications menu, go to accessories, then select "Take Screenshot"; set "Grab after a delay of X seconds" to a reasonable value; I use 5 seconds. Then click "Take Screenshot" and position the cube however you want it to look... job done... :)

Ahaa... it's all so simple! Just so used to whacking Print Screen, never thought to have a look at its options. Cheers dude.

Now running Compiz Fusion using standard Gutsy Repos. Man it's so freaking awesome. They've really polished it up since I last tested it out. The setting thing isn't that bad...

Yeah it just takes a bit of tweaking to get what you like. I personally prefer having a background image rather than using the Cube Reflection. And yes, it's easy enough to change the colours that are used on the Expo Plugin.

The only problem I have is on start up I have to hit Alt + F2 and put in 'compiz --replace -c emerald &' to make it use the emerald theme and decorations. Does anyone know something I can set so it does this automatically?

System > Preferences > Sessions

Click Add New

Enter the name [anything]

Enter the command compiz --replace -c emerald &

Click OK and close the Sessions window.

Yeah that's what I thought. Doesn't seem to want to work though.

This command keeps popping up it's not the command!

look at the log, compiz trys to interpret -c as a switch but it's an old beryl switch.

Use this command
compiz --replace & emerald --replace &

Edit just checked :
Code:
~$ compiz --replace -c emerald &

edit . although this works to get it working I can't seem to get it to consistently startup in either gnome or KDE upon Login. Anyway I'll check it out later. If anyone else is having problems even getting it to run(!) check this thread out:

Running Feisty plus Fusion on my main machine, with non-standard repositories. Might have to fire up the spare machine this weekend and give Gutsy a whirl!

Nice desktop.
How did you get the dual monitors working? I could never get it to do when i tryed.

Just used nvidia-settings (accesible via gui in tthe Sysinfo tool)

You just choose how you want it and it generates an xorg file.
I'm using Twinview.

Only problem was getting it to accept that my CRT screen can do 1920x1200. Just used a modeline generator an added it to the config. then it worked.

there's a couple of glitches in Compiz I have found what looks like due to one screen being 1920 wide and the other being 1600 wide, but both 1200 high. Nothing major and only affected 1 or 2 compiz modules (that I don't use) after some more testing I'll let the relevent people know.

Been using Ubuntu on my second rig all week now. Very tempeted to install it on my main pc and just use Windows for gaming.

Currently nothing to look at, but it just works. Love it!

Question for all you compiz fusion users. What key combination should rotate the cube, I assumed it would be ctrl-alt + left click and swivel but its not working for me. The other compiz effects seem to be and the plugin is definitley turned on.

Make sure you have the Cube and Rotate Cube plugins switched on.

If the cube is working Ctrl+Alt+[left or right arrow] should make the desktop change.
