How are energy drinks legal?

I don't drink any tea or coffee or any other caffeine really so when I do have one they send me haywire.

Must have been 5 or 6 years since I had one when I worked in an office.

AFAIK France, Denmark and Norway banned Red Bull, not sure about any of the others.

Then again I can't even drink Coke as it feels like it's ripping my gums away after a few sips.

Just so you know, I bought a can of Monster at the weekend [the white one] and OH MY GOD that stuff is strong. By a quarter of the way through the can I was buzzing to ******* and back and this went on for about three-four hours. I couldn't even finish the can and ended up pouring the last part down the sink.

I'm amazed that these are sold in normal shops. How are they legal, the effect is so intense. Do people drive after drinking these things? Do people give them to kids? I'm absolutely stunned by how strong the effect was. It can't be good for you. What's worse is that I hear people get addicted to them.
I bet that's not the first white monster you've struggled to swallow

Most of the time I'd rather just have an espresso - all the caffeine, none of the needing to go to the toilet 15 times
I dunno, a good strong Americano can have me running for the lav :p
They are my go to drink if I’m out training on the bike and close to bonking.
Are these two different scenarios or you take one like a viagra before you get down with your significant other?

Yeah same. I can barely drink a whole can of coke in one sitting, unless I'm extremely hungover. Coke is also good when travelling in dubious areas to kill any meals that might be quite up to the health and safety standards of western countries :p

It's very easy to hit caffeine tolerance, and it happens quickly. So whilst it may really hit someone who isn't a caffeine drinker, for anyone else it's just a drink that provides a very mild stimulus, if that.

I can't drink those things. Mostly because they are disgusting and taste vile and due to the price.

Price? For all their faults, they are the cheapest drink on the shelf more often than not... Most cans of Relentless and Rockstar are a pound.

Which is ridiculous considering their sugar content and the supposed sugar tax.

Same could be said with a lot of other things like alcohol and cigarettes, it's a tax generator so it'll remain on store shelves regardless.

I cannot stand the smell of Red (Chav) Bull. It’s gross. How can people drink this stuff is another question. Get customers come in every day buying that. Most don’t work.

I don’t mind the odd sugar free fruity energy drink- Monster Ultra Red etc

My ex was addicted to Red Bull. Had it every day. So many carbs in one can.

I assume you ask to see their bank statements before serving them so you can confirm they are in receipt of benefits rather than wages? :p

Agreed re. the smell though, it just smells of chemicals. I didn't used to hate it, I can only assume its some residual association with hangovers caused by too many vodka & redbull in my student days!

funny timing... i had my first energy drink since 20 odd years just last week.

180mg caffeine it said on the tin NOCCO "no carbs company"
it tasted like Kiss. Thats Swedish.. for ..... :P
id rather have a coffee. its sad.

Used to work a 12-hour night shift on Friday, and then straight into an 8-hour day shift Saturday morning. A couple of the smallest cans of Red Bull really made the difference.

Don't buy it any more, though, as they're still flogging it in Russia.
