How are people with 3000 series cards faring with PSU usage?

TBH I didn't check it. What makes me think it was the PSU was that my USB ports lost power, stopping my keyboard and mouse from working for a couple of minutes.

Wattage and quality are both important. With a 500w load, I'd take a quality 600w, high efficiency PSU over a cheap "750w" PSU every time.

Some PSUs are now so good they can output +135% power, meaning you don't have to have the headroom, it comes with headroom, and it delivers the power on the label forever* (*until it gracefully exits).

Not many PSUs would be "blown" if overloaded. Decent PSUs have overload protection which shuts down the power supply if it is loaded beyond safe limits. Obviously there will be a few cases of PSUs going "pop", simply because they develop a fault. It's true that a heavily loaded PSU is slightly more likely to fail, especially if it is old, or is poorly designed.

Have been tracking my new 3070's power consumption (Ventus 3x) - averaging about 220 - 230w. Only about 10 watts more than my OC'd 1070ti.
I was a little concerned as I only have a 600w power supply but its been absolutely fine, although I will probably leave it stock as I doubt I have much head room for over clocking.

You did, I was just pointing out that they are both important. It's not quite as simple as quality over wattage though, as a top quality 500w PSU isn't suitable if it's going to be used with a 600w load.

If you want to manage your system accurately invest in a wall/socket meter. From this you can work out what components are drawing watt (pun intended). You can get a base idle figure then work away from there. Today from adjusting my case fan profiles to quiet I knocked off 15w.

How's your RTX3080 btw ? Any problems with your PSU ? I'm ~~thinking~~ dreaming of getting a 3080, and I have a similar 650w PSU.

My RTX 3090 FE is making my 3 year old HX1000i whine/buzz loudly under load. A 2 month old HX750i has the same problem.

Idle: 170W
Peak: 460W (SteamVR Performance Test)

CPU: i7-7700K (at 4.2GHz)

GPU configured as "Prefer maximum performance"

Google it. Seems like a common issue. I once used a (cheaper) Corsair PSU in a build for a customer. Had to replace it due to coil whine.

PSU is a Corsair RM850 I've had since 2013.

Was drawing 510w at the wall when messing about on Watchdogs: Legion with everything on max. Nothing is OC'd.
Gaming at 1440.

As I type, 230w... I think people will be fine with a decent 650w PSU.

My 1080ti would draw 400w with everything maxed out (obvs no RT or DLSS)

for refrence my old Vega56 with overclock on 64 bios would be in the same ballpark.
