I was hit with the win7 update bug today.
svchost stuck at 13%, memory being hogged and windows update just sat for hours and hours.
I have followed the advice in that link above and windows update is working fine for me again now.
It did flag loads of updates. Just use your common sense with them.
No one needs 44 language packs.
That link has been updated recently and does contain some "serious" news about win 7 updates. From October the end users will no longer be able to see what's in them. Every "patch Tuesday" will just be a roll-up of all the stuff Microsoft want on your machine. You get to decide whether or not to install it.
So no more skipping of the stuff you don't want.
