HOW DO I BUILD MY PC NOW IVE BOUGHT ALL THE BITS?

I liked their stuff before the 'American Idiot' album more.

You'll have sound - as long as you've plugged in the wires correctly ;)

i only have the speakers that are within the monitor - will get some proper ones later - now i just need to hear a beep/squeak/sound to put my mind at rest

I've never used or installed ubuntu, but i'm sure it will make a reassuring sound once it's intsalled.

Having said that ubuntu may not recognise your sound card - so you may have to wait a little longer after you've installed your drivers.

i do not believe it !!!!!

message on attempting to stall ubuntu - it got all the way to the end and then this.

"the installer has encountered an error copying files to the hard disk"

Perhaps you should call it quits for tonight - you've had a good start, things look promising. I would switch off and try again tomorrow with a new d/led version or a new freshly slow burned copy.

its now taken me to the ubuntu desktop - but the option to install to hard drive is still there so im guessing it hasnt installed it to my hard drive then???

but why is the question???

im assuming ive got all the wires plugged into the hard drive ok?

a sata signal and a sata power

If your in the ubuntu desktop it must have installed or thinks it has.

Try a reboot - but take the disc out as it will boot from that and not the hard drive.

no when i went to shut down the disk popped out and when i went to run without the disk in nothing happened at all - so i put the disk back in and it worked - think i might go to bed

Good idea.

Make a slow burned copy tomorrow.

And once it's installed you'll need to install your:

1.chipset drivers
2.GPU Drivers
3.Sound drivers
4.Monitor drivers
5.Update ubuntu

Go to the manufacturer sites and d/l the latest drivers - apart from your gfx go straight to nvidia.

Sounds like a dodgy disk. remember if you leave the disk in the drive you can boot to a live CD version, so that might be what's happening.
Ubuntu will run like lightening on that system.

Hes isntalling ubuntu ;)

Everythign will be installed automatically apart from the nvidia proprietory 3d drivers (aka the good ones for decent 3d performance, and theres just an option to pick on the task bar).

Anyway Nice build to the OP! (fun to watch it build up). Id try the ubuntu option to "try ubuntu without installing" on the live cd just to check it works (the installer can be accessed from there too)

Thanks - i had no idea about that as i'm totally unfamiliar with that OS - which obvioulsy was very apparent :)

I may take a look at this OS myself - try a dual boot system as it looks interesting.

hehe - i will take a look at that tomorrow, too, then.

I've just finished downloading the 64 bit version - i'll probably have a go at installing it over the weekend. The GUI and compatibilty issues on first glance reading, coupled with your optimism, looks encouraging...

Looks encouraging until you want to play a game ;)

What's the noise level like coming from the case? I'm not asking to worry you, just curious as I'll be doing an Antec 300 build myself in hopefully less than a month.

Morning...

Just make a new copy as that one sounds corrupt for install purposes.

You should have a choice of burn speeds - choose 4 or 6. (It may have been the disc at fault and not the burn process - but it's still advisable to do a slow burn for an OS, ubuntu, copy.)

im still concerned that my hard drive isnt owrking properly - is there any way that i can test my hard drive is working?
