How Does Redex Work?

2. Slow down from 70mph to 65 that will make a difference, you only have a small engine in it and it does not have tall gearing, as its designed for town use, stop start.

ive done 85 average down the motorway to bath in my fiesta 1.25 and got just over 350 miles on a full tank, with 3 passengers and luggage.

I'm glad you said that about your fiesta doing 220 to a tank I can do the same in mine also mine has a 40 litre tank though and the same engine if you sort it out tell me I would love to know why :) edit mine is te 1998 model also

Millers plus for the diesels is quite frankly, epic. With regular use I see around 30-40miles extra per tank for some reason and it does seem to pick up better too

When you refill after using a "tank of fuel", how many litres go in? I would be very surprised if you are actually averaging anywhere near 23mpg!

I would validate your economy exactly before investigating possible problems.

Redex works quite well with Carbs, although there is something to be gained with injectors.

Essentially it would clean up your injectors and take some of the varnish off, but it is unlikely to be an issue on a newish car.

Older cars will see more benefit if you use a couple of bottles over a few tanks, but you would be better off sending your injectors to be cleaned properly and flow tested for £40 than spend £10 on redex.

In short, it has a purpose but you won't notice the difference, but that's not the point.

I remember bunging it in an NSR 250RR I had many years ago. Took weeks for the white reek to stop pouring out the exhausts.

Not sure m8, your call. It didn't do my wee NSR any harm. That's just how it went with me with a 2 stroke m/c. Not sure how it would go with you on your 4 stroke CBR. Give it a whirl and let us know. :D

i got some free redex from the birmingham car show a couple of years ago, i noticed no difference when i used it.

my car is a 2000 fiesta zetec 1.25.

according to the first google for fuel calculator, i put in £5 fuel at £117.9 and get 45 miles out of it.

"Your real-world MPG average is 48.24, covering 45 miles using 0.93 gallons of fuel."

i dont do any motorways or A roads just 3 mile journeys to and from work and friends houses.

i dont drive like a granny but try to be as easy as i can on the pedal.

Worked for me. Car hadn't been started for 6 months though mind :p

Was running lumpy and was very smokey, put some in the tank and through the carb, and it settled down after a few minutes.

Not sure if that was coincidence though :)

How on earth can you accurately measure when you have used £5 worth?

I knew mine wasn't good but I wasn't aware people get 350 miles from there Fiesta.

This is such a kick up the nuts considering I've done 3k miles in the last seven months or so! - Gear changes are normally

1st: 0 - 10mph
2nd: 10 - 18mph
3rd: 18 - 25mph
4th: 25 - 30mph
and then anything above 30 is in 5th

Want to get it booked into a garage ASAP now - Although all the good garages around here always full and want you to leave your car with them at 9am and they don't normally ring you back untill mid afternoon!

I'd say you're labouring it quite badly doing 30 in 4th/5th, which may have something to do with the poor mpg but I doubt its the whole story
