macca672,

what you have just stated in a logical fallacy, specifically Argumentum ad hominem

Would you care to address my statement rather than diverting the subject to me please! ;)

The OP could save extra money if they just stuck to a single card setup. I would imagine that an HD5870 should be fine for the next year or so.

The money saved could be used to fund a new higher end card in the next 12 months to 18 months if required.

They could save around £60 going for the following motherboard instead:

It can still do Crossfire though at PCI-E 2.0 8X.

I would also compare the two PSUs which I have listed to see which is better. If you intend to stick with a single card setup a VX550W would do the job:

wasnt an attack mate, i agree with what you say, absolutely no need for i7 other than epeen and the AMD is an excellent choice

keep fighting the good fight brother :D

I May stick with the Asus Crosshair III Formula as i will be attempting an Oc at some point and it just sounds beginner freindly if im honest :)

Now with the money saved im totally unsure what i should go for a new shiney monitor or a 2nd gfx card :D
Im like a magpie Ooo shiney must have it !

Lol cheers guys

I included a monitor in the components I listed!!

One HD5870 should suffice for now!! :p

I would only upgrade the graphics card when necessary!!

A £200 to £300 graphics card in 12 months or 18 months would probably destroy an HD5870 so think about saving money for upgrades too when necessary!!

You could always overclock the CPU and graphics card if performance in games starts to drop as this should help give you a free performance boost when it is needed.

so you have around £230 left? personally Id go for the second monitor and if you find you need another gfx card down the line pick one up then as they will probably have dropped in price :)

but it all depends if you will actually use the 2nd monitor, if not, put teh cash away and save it towards your next upgrade :D

Is there any *reality* going on in this thread?

Nah i will probably end up getting rid of this imax i have and imagine selling it as a full comp will get slightly more ??

Monitors crap any how if im honest when i got this machine from a pre build shop they had run out of the monitors that came with the pc so i have a no brand monitor..
seriously it has no branding on it at all !?

At least the cost of the build has now dropped by over £400 and now includes a 24" monitor too!!

I also made suggestions for a cheaper motherboard and PSU to the OP too and if they had gone for a cheaper case the build would have dropped nearer to the £1000 mark.

I think not no reality at all, i see your point completly which is why i went for a £400 build instead of a £700, granted it was only cpu, mobo, ram, psu but in the end i decided it would last me well and do the daily things i want it to pefectly hopefully for the next few years.

Big wayne as a lot of good points and info, and could really save a lot of you some cash and still recieve similar performance figures and his 4p thread is a good read especially if buying a system for the first time/or the last time you purchased was a few years ago.

I spent about a £1000 for my last system including the monitor well over three years ago. With a few small upgrades it still does the job for me quite well an hopefully for another year or so. It was an SFF system so it was a pricier than an equivalent system based around an ATX motherboard.

Personally I would not spend over a £1000 on a build but such a system should have a long lifespan.
