A case and a monitor is a great area to splurge?

If he wants an expensive case then he shall have an expensive case, it's nice to look at, some are nice to touch etc . . .thats a very subjective thing and I understand it!

But surely we could save him enough money so he can book a nice holiday here! :cool:

I would have suggested an HD5850 1GB for around £220 but they are all out of stock on OcUK!! :(

Overclock one of these and it should have similar performance to an HD5870.

I would have suggested an X4 955BE but they are all C2 stepping still!!

The C3 stepping has support for 4 DIMMs of DDR3 and better idle power consumption too.

Overclockability is supposed to be better from what I have seen but of course I cannot guarantee this!!

off topic i just ordered a 955 be do you think i should change it the 965be only reason i went for the 955 was to save a bit of cash

And yes but if i manage to sell this machine im on now for £150-200
will at least have a little more flexibility

For my SFF that card would be ideal replacement for my HD4830.

OTH,the HD5830 is coming out in the first week of Feburary and this could be better value for money than an HD5770!!

It is rumoured to be the replacement of the HD4890 and have 1280 stream processors!!

I don't see why you would need anything more expect if your a Pro Bencher or a Pro Video Editer? :confused:

i'm trying to make it last as long as possible i won't upgrade anything for atleast another 2-3 years

Huh?

That's like saying your gonna buy an expensive £150 pair or jeans because you want them to last longer? . . . when you could just buy a pair of Levis for £50 and see how you get on? :p

Don't buy for the future mate, at least not with Processors, buy stuff for Now, today, this moment in time . . . your basically wasting money and trying to justify it . . .

You tell me one single thing that the PhIIX4 will bring and I will show you the AIIX4 handling it with little effort?

What is going on here? . . . it would be so easy to pop that chip out in 12 months, sell it on OcUK MM and pop in a 2011 version? :D

You will have a much better chip and still save money £££

I do allso play around with 3D modlers on this machine but it dies on me half the time allways messing round with 2D and 3D engines so.. yea i am looking for a kick

So nobody here try the logitech game board ??

That is what I have done!! :) I used to have a Pentium D 805 which was replaced by an E4000 series processor and finally by a Q6600!! :)

I am still using a 975X motherboard from 2006 too!! :)

However everyone is not as patient when it comes to hardware upgrades though!!

I am still using an old Athlon in my other computer.
