How far does everyone commute to work?

40 miles each way, mostly (relatively quiet) motorway, takes me about 45 minutes. Feels like a long way but would rather do that than queue in traffic!

I used to drive 60 miles to work - 2 hours there, 1.5 hours home (traffic). I was never late.

I now work 15 miles from home, nice quiet rural roads - 20 - 25 minutes. Always late for work :(

About a mile & a half, which is 20 minutes door to door. A few hundred yards to the station, about 5 mins on the train & a 10-12 min walk the other end.

Currently 50.1 miles each way. (Home to Broadwindsor)

Before that my commute was 36.4 miles each way (Home to Plymouth)

And before that it was 54.0 miles each way. (Poole to bath)

YAY for the long commutes i always end up doing. Even now i own the company i still travel over 100 miles a day!

Surely its a case of how long more than the distance? Who cares how far you travel, only the time it takes?

Anyways it will be 21 miles, 10-15 minutes for the first 3 by car and then 15 minutes for the rest on an express train.

Edit: Also cycling in a suit doesn't sound fun, do you not sweat man?

Anyone commuting less than 10 miles in a car, take the bike you lazy individuals! Should only take half an hour to cycle ten miles.

Cons: can take longer, you can get drenched / sweaty / run over by a lorry.

Benefits: health and fitness, fresh air exposure, feel better, reduce petrol fumes entering the environment thereby improving Britain's air quality, save a fortune on petrol, beat the traffic especially in cities, arrive at work feeling more chilled, refreshed and energised to face the day ahead!

Change that into will take longer, even in the city center with all the lights, a car is far faster. I have better things to do than commute 45 minutes to uni by bike rather than 10-15 mins by car ( like stay in bed and sleep 30 mins longer).

Also add cons: Need to eat more, as you burn more calories. You have no proper music ( I don't mean in ear rubbish, but basses that make your mirrors and body shake). No ability to take passengers ( well okay you can take 1 if you don't have an ATB, but then you have to pedal harder, and you can't take 4 others). No fun ( traffic ligth GP's). Crappy temperature: no climate control and heated seats. Not being to take anything large.

Car: Comfort, pleasure, speed.
Cycling: A to B machine that is a chore.

All available statistics for London state that as untrue. I don't know what city you're referring to but certainly in central London, it's quicker...fact.

And having to eat more...wtf? Are you saying people shouldn't exercise as then they have to eat more food? Just lol :D.

I had a harder time gaining weight when I used to cycle regularly than now. Gaining weight is hard enough for me already, I don't fancy burning loads of calories by spending 90 minutes a day cycling.

And I'm talking about here, London, fair enough, the traffic was a nightmare when I visited it, I don't know why people put up with it and don't demand some sort of new underground road network ( willing to pay tax for specifically that) such as in Boston. It's a shame London is crippled by such slow transport that cycling is faster :(.

3 miles, I cycle it, bus is a waste of time and effort, but I don't work that's to college.

I used to cycle 11 miles and then 15 miles back.

I'm glad it's shorter, it means I have more energy to do 60-100 mile rides 2-3 times a week.

Snowdog, are you underweight or something? I cycle between 200 and 400 miles a week and I struggle to loose weight, I'm stuck at around 11.5stone but that's a fine weight for me.

Oh I see, you're trying to build muscle.

My commute personally is along country roads not in the city, but due to various junctions and traffic lights, it only takes me 5 more minutes to cycle than to go in the car.

I'm only ''just'' in a healthy weight, bordering underweight yeah, BMI of 18...

Sorry snowdog, but sometimes you really do live up to your age :D:D:D:D:D

Robbie, a few points I can see how you came to, but maybe try being a Londoner for a while. Convenience and speed are the most important things for a commuting Londoner, saving the evironment is for the hippies who more than likely try to run over peds and get squashed by lorries turning left ;):D

Now get outta my way tourist !!!111

Fast legs you've got there mate :D

I'm at my desk in London before I've even reached 8400rpm in 1st gear, such is the power of VTEC.
