no difference here taking the mmeory up, same 37secs - perhaps it's a setting for people with 1gbram only or maybe single core?
I've got 2gig and it took the memory allocation up from about 900mb to 1.2gig. Having said that CS3 does seem to be quicker IMO so maybe its just better coded and thats made a difference too?!

Just done this on my new C2D setup:

42.51 seconds running CS2 on XP Pro.

Machine specs:
Intel C2D E6300 @ Stock
2GB DDR II
Cheap Asrock Mobo
Old slow SATA HDD!

Did you raise the memory allocation and then re-load PS before you tried the test again? Changes to preferences dont take affect until you re-start PS.

Ya !

I don't think it matters in CS2, besides my previous before using 70 was 55%

I'm currently running a 3GHz P4 Northwood and in CS2 it gets 1min 36 sec. Going by blueCAT's and Moredhel's times a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook running CS3 might get under 30 sec! It seems pretty crazy that a little plastic laptop can beat a heavy metal desktop by so much - I guess that's progress! :)

MacBook 2.0GHz C2D 2GB
PhotoShop CS3 Beta
31 Seconds
(was on battery - doesn't seem like that slowed it down)

just tried again on my new machine. e6600 "3.2 gHz, 2gb, 2 x 320 seagates raid 0:

cs2: 26 sec
cs3: 16 seconds

thats nearly 40% faster than cs2 :D

51 Secs using CS2, 2.13GHz Duo 1GB RAM. Running a 32bit installiation of XP though so I'm hoping that'll come down once I get a 64bit copy of Vista

 3 min & 4 secs :o , must have done it by hand lol, is this the slowest

inspiron 8600 lappy, 256 ram, pentium M 1400 hahahahaha

Old:
P4C 3.0 @ 3.2 GHz 1gig. XP home. CS2
1 min 16s

New
QX6700 @ 3450MHz 2gig. XP pro 32 . CS2 90% mem alloc
12.4 secs (average over best of 3 with stopwatch)

Very happy, this is exactly what I bought this thang fur :p

Now if I could only learn to overclock proper like youse guys ;)

[edit]

Just tried same filter on CS3. Cannot get it to run at all, even at default CPU settings, pc instantly freezes.
