Oh man, CS3 must be very optimised because I can do this now in 10 seconds flat (Vista32, stock Q6600, 4GB DDR800 @ 5-5-5-12-2T and an 8800GT)

System Specs:

Althlon 64 3700+ SD @ 2.6 GHz (2.5,3,2,5 1T)
2GB Corsair PC3500LL Pro
2x 120GB Maxtor Sata drives
7900GTX GFX

UTorrent, Firefox, MSN and Avast Running plus usual drivers inc wireless.

Photoshop CS:

1.23.9

Photoshop CS2:

1:04.2

Hmmm.. seems slow. But CPU is a dog I suppose. I want a dual core 939 to throw in :(

I have just done this test again with the same CPU+ RAM @ the same clock. I not have an 8800 GTS 640 and two 500GB Samsing Spinponts instead. I'm also running Vista 64 now.

Photoshop CS3 does this in 1:11 :(

A new video card aint gonna play much help.

This really is a matter of processing power and fast memory
I made half a second up by switching to vista x64 so don't expect much in that department either.

Wow mine did ok if I compare it with others in the thread...

1.83ghz Core Duo Macbook with 512mb ram
Photoshop CS
Mac OS X
51 seconds

Forgot about this thread, same laptop and photoshop version as before, but now with 2gb ram

20 seconds

I've just completed a small system upgrade

Core2 Duo E2140 Overclocked to 3.2Ghz (400 x8) :)
2GB Ram
WinXP

Photoshop CS1 - 28 seconds
Photoshop CS2 - 29 seconds
Photoshop CS3 - 18 seconds

I'm going to give this a go on my ghetto backup PC I'm currently using. It's a Duron 1300 with 256mb of SDRAM.

/Runs bath & makes tea...

It scored 4m28s. Not quite as bad as I expected.
