How hot should a Q6600 G0 be on a Tuniq Tower at idle, mine seems toasty.

is your room cold? if it is then those temps will be about right, my speedfan readings match my coretemp with my E6850 G0

Yip paste that came with the Tuniq (TX1) will need time to embed

(Soz if i confused you with MX)

hmm ok, spose I'll leave it a few days then.

I could still make out the writing on the cpu when i had put the thermal paste on, does this mean it is to thinly spread out?

thanks for the help btw.

Yeah I'd say so mate. See how your temps go, but you might want to thin about re-doing it. I know it's a pain - gotta do mine soon too.
Oh and I've seen the Tuniqs - look great fun to work on.

It could be slightly thin, but those temps would also indicate a very slight concaveness to the chip which is associated with quads (some worse than others hence lapping).

Give 2-3days and allow the TIM to cure. If after 3 days you are not happy with the temps clean and reapply but not to thick a layer of TIM.

ok, i'll do that then.
fingers crossed it will work out fine, but arnt these temps pretty high though either way??

I'll keep you posted :)

thanks.

I suppose it depends on your particular cooling setup (i.e. the rest of your system and ambient room temp).
Makes me wonder though, cos the temps I report are from TIM that I put on today, this morning - so I'm in the same boat as you but with a 900Mhz overclock yet cooler or similar idle temps. Something doesnt seem right to me.

hmm... I may have found the problem with CoreTemp, but im not sure if it would effect it.

when I was fitting the new heatsink somehow I managed to knock the battery and reset the time.

I hadnt realised this, and was gettting errors on AVG and MSN aswell, adjested the time and date and they worked fine.

Would it matter to coretemp if the time wasnt correct?

edit: temp appear to have dropped a little but the temps are very uneven over the cores...

Mine sits in the low 40s. Does it actually make a difference? Can't say I've been bothered much about it.

thanks for the tip, i used to have 2 keyboards plugged in just to hit F8 everytime.

mine sits around 34-38 idle Q6600 @ 3.2ghz stock volts. Though i did lap my Ultra-120.

Perhaps too tight? You should get some MX2 or Artic silver andn try again i thinks.

Is the fan blowing into your exhaust? Could have put it the wrong way round?

I can't afford any new TIM dave, and the fan is blowing into the exaust yes.

Get it loaded up? do you mean run prime/orthos or clock it?
