How hot should a Q6600 G0 be on a Tuniq Tower at idle, mine seems toasty.

Reseating with the correct amount of paste will give you a better idea of what is causing the high temps.

if i take it off and then post a pic of what my paste looks like atm, will you be able to tell me what im doing wrong perhaps?

well it sits right over the northbridge heatsink, which gets quite hot, but it isnt touching it.

what will reseating do, becasue that means taking my pc apart again :(

To be fair i to had to re seat my CPU again, cos i was concerned about a 7c difference between cores. I actually lapped the cpu and HS, put it all back together, and although each core was about 2c cooler the difference in core temps (7-8c) remained. So in my case it wasnt worth it much apart from experience, but your stock temps do seem to be abit high. Maybe you should lap your cpu and HS??

I don't have anything to lap them with :/

I used the clingfilm way like you said you did, how much TP did you put on the cpu, i put a size, smaller than a pea but bigger than a grain of rice if that helps

well i initially put a blob the size of a grain of rice on, but it wouldnt spread out enough to cover the whole surface, so i put a 2nd smaller blob on.

I wouldn't go lapping anything anyway. Not when you're only at stock!
As Cob says - it definately needs to be reseated. I know it's a pain but it does need doing. It might be that you havnt put the correct amount of TIM on (too much or too little) or that you havn't tightened the thumb screws evenly. Prob best to tighten it like a head gaket on a car, opposites; top left, bottom right, top right, bottom left ten back to top left and so on, turning only half turn at a time on each or whatever, until its secured evenly on each corner - but not too tight.

At least doing this and noting to yourself that it's done properly, you can eliminate a seating/TIM problem. :)

Might be worth taking it out.
I'd prefer to spend 20 mins taking everything out my case over 40 mins of swearing and wishing I had smaller hands. lol

But that's just me.

I would, that Tuniq is a pain to do in the case. If your confident you can do it, then go for it.

hmmm on closer inspection i dnt think i'll have a choice since my hand is to big to get the the screws on the left hand side.

cheers for you're helps guys, i'll get a pic of my current TIM amount, and keep you posted :)

it'll probly take me about an hour to take it all out and then back in again tbh. but this is my first build tbf.

:( going out now, and im out all tomorrow, so probly wont be able to do it until tomorow night at the earliest :(

do you think 55c is ok? just so i can play crysis?

Yep 55C is good, up to 70C is ok but try and keep it sub 60C.

Reseat using AS5, spread using a credit card.

I did this on my X1900XTX and went from 60C load @ 100% fan to 55C load @ 70% fan.

All about the way u lay it and mount it ;)

Ive used them 3 times.

first time, it was delivered late, and to the wrong adress
second time they just didnt bother to deliver at all and made me go and collecxt it from there depot which is nearby as it goes.
and third time they got it right, except they crushed my Tuniq Tower box, so all the thins were bent.

How badly damaged were the fins on the Tuniq? Taking into account you have a high temp problem since installing this cooler.
