How Long Have You Off For Christmas

I'm off tomorrow till 8th.
Had 4 days remaining, and office closed on 27, 28, 29th anyway.
However, due to the policy of holidays being Xmas to xmax... I had to agree to being available by phone if needed whilst I'm off.
Which is fine, I enjoy my work so not a burden to me.

Off Christmas eve and Christmas, then back to normal on the 26th.
Personally have no attachment to Christmas, it's just a commercial holiday.

We've mainly done it this way for childcare purposes, which is the main factor in deciding when 99% of my annual leave gets used nowadays.
Yes, when I was younger I didn't travel much and took the attitude I could do that when I was older, not forseeing that annual leave was just to be used to babysitting and I'd get very little time when my whole family would be off work and school at the same time.

Working from home helps a lot with older kids, e.g. my 10yo can generally occupy himself but it's not really practical with young kids, unless you have a very cushy job. So I'm off all this week whilst my wife is working, then she's off next week when I'm working. At least there is the 3x bank holidays over this period, whereas in the summer school holidays it's like ships in the night.

My previous jobs banned anyone from using annual leave in December

We've got a ban on November and December where I work due to being retail linked distribution/logistics. Somehow some people manage though :( obviously for specific things like a family wedding, etc. it is a bit different.

I’m working Friday then back to work on Wednesday 27th

Work is a four-letter word! Back when I worked in local government IT, Christmas was a very busy time of year because we could roll out stuff as many people were away. We worked up to midday on Christmas Eve and the work-days between Christmas and new year.

For us - last two weeks before Christmas.

Then what ****** some colleagues are those who book off time between Xmas and NY when they are both part time and have family nearby. They can visit their family when they finish at 1pm.

Apart from my parents- all my other family live 2 hours drive away.

Interesting. I'm in IT at an FE college and Christmas is the one time of year we all get a break and there is a full shut down. Still doesn't stop the tickets asking for all sorts of stuff to be done as IT aren't off too, right???

To answer the question though - Last day 15th and back on the 2nd. Mandatory use of a couple of days leave and we're gifted another 3 (or something).
