How long is your commute/Drive to work

It takes me about 10 minutes to walk it at a normal (for me) pace, but my normal walking pace is much faster than average. So it's probably a bit over a kilometre and a bit less than a mile.

That's been a huge benefit to me over time. I've saved a lot of money and hassle over the years. Commuting is such a waste of life.

For me it's 10.1 miles but 9 of those are uninterupted dual carriageway so it takes about 12mins, assuming I stick to the limits ;)

Used to spend an hour commuting each way in a previous job. Ended up taking a lower paying job closer for quality of life reasons. 3 mile commute so would walk, jog or cycle most of the year. Cycling was quicker than driving, hell Jogging was quicker when they started a lot of major roadworks.

I moved again in August 2020 and haven't been back in the office since. It's a 6200 mile commute now so dont fancy it.

In my eyes a 30-40min drive isn't too bad but if its much more the job really needs to be worth it or have nice hours. Spending 10 hours at a desk with 2 hours in a car just isn't something im willing to do anymore.

About 30 minutes by car - split 3rds between dual-carriageway, main road and back lanes.

Anything more than that increasingly gets tedious for regular commuting.

6 odd miles which should not take long but schools on route and random roads works always slow me down. Been using Waze in recent weeks as it re-routes and re-routes to try to avoid major disruption. Good day 12 minutes. Bad day 25 minutes.

It's just 1.35 miles as the crow flies but because of a combination of private land (Farms etc), countryside unclassified roads which meander everywhere and a great big airfield blocking any direct point to point travel, it's a near 20 minute drive over 10 miles instead of a 20 min walk.

Roughly about 14miles, takes 20-25 min on the morning around 30-35 on the afternoon on the way home, I work from 6AM till 2PM.

30 miles and about 45 mins to get in before 8am, could be anything after that time due to traffic.

I recently changes jobs and thought I'd be ok with that, but going from a 35min to 45 min commute has weirdly sent me to the point where I hate it.

Pre-pandemic two hours each way from front door to desk involving drive, train, walk, tube/bus

I've commuted short and far from various places via different means for 25 years. I have two pieces of advice people sometimes don't consider when thinking about commuting:
  • Factor in everything. Door-to-door. A short train journey might be offset by the station car park being 10 minutes away from the station.
  • The quality of your commute is important. I much prefer spending 45 minutes on a high speed train with no one sitting next to me than 30 minutes driving across zone 2 of London as I once did. It will make as much a difference to your well being as the pure time element.
