How long is your commute?

At rush hour it takes be about 20mins due to traffic, I can do the same journey during the day / night in about 4mins

Obviously I don't know the jobs but I wouldn't let the distance put me off that much, go for which ever job you think will suit you best etc imo :)

Less than 10mins drive, regardless of the time of day :D. The longest commute I've had was about an hour, but it never really bothered me because it was my own decision to work that distance away from home.
I wouldn't consider working more than 50 miles away from home on a daily basis. It would definately be a case of looking for something closer or moving to suit the demand.

About 1hr - 1hr 15mins each way, Stone(staffs) to Warrington (cheshire) each day. leave at 7am atm back 10.30pm, roll on go live date for the project I'm managing on the 3rd April!

If you don't mind me asking what do you spend on petrol in an average week?

We can make a guess - nothing since he drives a diesel. But on diesel, 90 miles a day = 450 miles a week. Assume 40mpg from the 2.5 V6 TDI is 11.25 gallons which is 51.1 litres which at £0.92 would cost £47 a week (~£2,500 a year).

My tank will take about £54 so I get about a week and a half out of a tank so £47 is a good guess. :) Getting to Stoke from Derby is actually a good road to drive on. Only problem I get is the last 5 miles in Stoke as it can sometimes come to a halt even at 8am.

Considering it's a fairly fast car, I'm so glad I went to diesel. Not only is fuel consumption better going up and down the A50, it also means loads of lovely torque.:)

15minutes in my chauffeur driven limo.

ok i get a lift with someone... :o

if he has a day off, i have to get a bus which gets me to work 1h10mins before i start. not good.... :(

7 min walk :)

and yes, i timed it so I know when to leave home after coming back for lunch

Surely it would be quicker/healthier to walk then?

0.25 mile on foot, 0.33 mile by car.

5 minute walk, 2 minute drive.

Helps that I don't start till 10. Not as busy when I leave.

I wouldn't even waste my time driving that sort of distance. Pointless wear on the car for a start, won't even get up to temperature.

I normally have to walk further than that to Uni and thats AFTER I've driven in and parked.

Most of the time I walk. But occasionally I need the car. That and I am extremely lazy. Pain in the arse on the few occassions I do start early, spend more time sat at the junction coming out of my road than it would take me to walk..

My placement for next year is 30.7 miles away, so at a guess 45 mins to an hour depending on traffic,

Looking to get a cheap 125 to do the commute on, or possibly a second more economical car :p

Your all wusses!

150 mile commute (2 1/2 hours) each way! So 300 mile round trip. Newark Nottinghamshire to East India, London Docklands, & I work 12 hour shifts.

I work 4 on, 4 off though so it evens out a bit.

I work about six miles away. Sometimes it can take about an hour if traffic is heavy. When there isn't much on the road e.g. Sat morning I can do it in just under 20 minutes at legal speeds.

my commute into uni is about 50mins by bus during rush hour, and only about 30mins outside rush hour.

I'd rather walk as i absolutely hate taking the bus during rush hour as its always packed and your getting pushed around, that and i get suspicious of people with large ruck sacks and the like.

all in all its a bit uncivilised compared with driving, and is the only reason i'd move away from london so as to avoid getting on buses and the tube.

21 miles door to door Kilmarnock to Glasgow. Usually 25 minutes on door to door motorway, bit longer if I leave the house after 7am, and best part of 45 minutes if I leave after 7.30am. Good thing is come school holiday time it's usually half an hour whatever time I leave.

its 6 miles each way. so it works out to be 10-15mins in the morning. and 15-20 in the afternoon. depending on how long it takes me to get out of my road in the morning, and how long it takes to get out of the business park in the afternoon.
