How long would it take to walk 3 miles?

Well..... you're wrong. Simple as that. :)

You think it's impossible to walk a mile in ten minutes? And sustain it for 4? What planet are you living on?

I have no doubt you're not a very good runner if you think walking at 6mph is superhuman.

BS, I don't believe you can walk 1 mile in 10 minutes for 4 miles.
I'd be willing to throw down a wager for you to prove it.
We meet halfway and the winner gets his petrol paid plus £100 in the pocket.

So 6mph is walking pace then?? So by your estimate people could walk the london marathon in less than 4 hours 30 minutes.....get real

A very quick web search got me this - 'In 2005, the average marathon time in the U.S. was 4 hours 32 minutes 8 seconds for men, 5 hours 6 minutes 8 seconds for women'

People train for months and months to be able to do a marathon in this time frame.......So you could easily beat this by walking? 'what planet are you living on?'

Pfft...I'll walk back from stoke ;)

Really.... I don't get why you're so incredulous. It's a fast pace, but it's not ridiculous. If somebody was claiming they were racewalking at 8mph everywhere, then that would be questionable, but 6mph is quite easily sustainable for 4 miles with some conditioning. Admittedly I'm ****ing sweat and have to jump in the shower as soon as I get home..... It's just as tiring as running.

Last year I was helping one of my friends train to join the paras. One of their requirements is a 20 mile march cross-country carrying a 20kg bergen and a rifle..... which has to be completed in under 1 hour 50 mins. Now THAT's difficult. I tried doing a full practice with him and had to slow my pace after about 6-7 miles.

Why are you continuing to spout nonsense?

A 10-mile (16 km) march conducted as a squad over undulating terrain. Each candidate carries a 35 lb (16 kg) bergen (not including water) and a rifle. The march is currently to be completed in under 1 hour 50 minutes (TA candidates have 2 hours).

A 20-mile (32 km) squadded march over diverse types of terrain. Candidates carry a 35 lb (16 kg) bergen (not including water) and a rifle. The march must be completed in under 4 hours and 30 minutes. TA candidates do not participate in this event, due to their reduced opportunity to prepare for the course.

Are you still sticking to your BS?

I've just walked 0.8m in 12 minutes across central Manchester. I have small legs, though, so I have to haul ass to walk that fast.
