How long would it take to walk 3 miles?

I can't run because of a knee injury but I do a fair bit of walking. I usually average about 1 mile in 15 minutes. If I really step out I can walk a mile in just under 14 mins, to go any faster I'd have to run or else use a style of walking which I'd be embarrassed to be seen doing.

I manage to walk 4.9 miles to work in 1 hr 20. Also have what could be considered a fast walking pace and a long stride. Oddly enough if i catch the bus it still takes me 50 minutes damn buses n traffic

Anything over 45 minutes is for people who use cars all the time, are out of shape or have physical disability's / injuries.

I walk to work, going off endomondo it's 1.93 miles and takes about 24 min.

Well I walk to work and according to google maps it's 1.7 miles from my house to work. That takes me 20 minutes if I walk at my normal pace. And 30 minutes if I walk fairly slow.

So if I walk 1 mile in about 11 minutes, then about 33 minutes to walk 3 miles for me.

People say I walk too fast! But I've always walked fast haha.

Don't talk crap, the speed you walk doesn't necessarily indicate how fit you are. Not everyone wants or needs to walk at 5mph like you apparently do.

Why 45 minutes give an average speed of 4mph, which i think is reasonable, if you have none / do none of what i mentioned.

Of course this is for getting from point a to point b scenario. If you are doing things along the way it may take a little longer.

With such a pool of walking talent here I must give Lord Coe a call later this eveing. Someone will definitely get a medal next year.

Here you are jimbob27, this is the Para's doing a 'march' over 10 miles which they have to do under 1 hour 50 minutes.
I'd love to know where you did a 20 mile march in under 1 hour 50 minutes.

Now for people like Strife who think walking 10 minute miles is possible these Para's are doing 11 minute miles but they are doing a mixture of walking & jogging.

I hope that clears it up but I doubt it.

And here is a 'march' over 2 miles which they have to do in 18 minutes.
Once again a lot of running involved.

To be fair though, they are also carrying probable quite heavy back packs and kit. I have not watched the video, going off the screen grabs so a little jogging would make up for the slightly slower walking.

Just buy a cheap bike and end this argument. Trust me, if you don't drive and you have to walk for more then 15-20 minutes, a push bike is a GREAT investment, it keeps you fit as well. I love my bike.

They're also considerably fitter than most, so it's swings and roundabouts.
