Since our kid came along I've cut down from as many as I can to a limit of six.

Avoid the hangover for the most part, that and after lockdown my tolerance has plummeted.

The only reason the vast majority of people drink after about the age of 30 is chasing the unattainable goal of replicating a great night they had when they were a teenager. I think you gradually realise that you can still enjoy it but in a different way and involves much less booze.

Everyone has a complex relationship with alcohol to one extent of the other.

It's impossible. I'm in my 40s, and used to party in the late 90s. Those times simply don't exist.

Last week was our works night out. Town was literally dead, and everyone in our group just wanted to go home early.

I knew things were bad, but not that bad.

See... theres two types of night out for me... There is the casual night out, were talking guys having some food and drinks, normally work related but not always ~6+ drinks with food and just chill night.
Theres also "Out out", the lets let it all hang out style of night out, usually 2-4 times through the year. Usually mess functions or other special events like overseas trips etc.
Mess functions are a whole other level of "what the **** did I drink last night!?"

Aint that the ******* truth...
Had two mess functions in the last couple of weeks, first was HMS Victory dinner night, (Fantastic night if you ever get the opportunity!), was all fun and games till I started on the Pussers Rum, needless to say I dont remember getting back to the Hotel we were staying at. I did manage to stay reasonably compos mentis through the Xmas Ball despite the ungodly amount of alcohol consumed!

Back in the day i would lose count ,Working men's club to load up on cheap drinks and meet up ( pre mobile phone), taxi to Dewsbury or Batley, tour pubs and wine bars ,nightclub followed by a ruby,
These days a bottle of red, watching music vids on YouTube, if i do go out over xmass maybe 4/5 bottles, are desperados still a thing ? quite enjoy those

When you’re out on the bevvies, what’s your typical consumption? Trying to get a feel for how I compare to others.

I need to cut down cos my hangovers are getting too bad these days.
I need to cut down cos my hangovers are getting too bad these days. I usually stick to a few beers and maybe a glass of wine I usually find myself at a maximum of 5-6 standard drinks when out.

Pandemic really killed it for me - I've not been out since it started - but it had already been dwindling off in recent years.
Similar for me. A lot of my social life revolved around work; not necessarily current work colleagues but old friends and old colleagues that worked near my previous office. Once lockdown hit we rarely met.

Now the cost of it simply isn't worth it and neither are the hangovers. So my socialising days down a pub have reduced a lot.

I've been on 1 "Night out" since the start of the COVID pandemic... lol

That was my friend's birthday and i had about 6 pints.

Well, I stuck to 6 drinks last night (mix of cocktails and lager) and I'm fine this morning so might have hit my magic number. Will experiment with just lager, just spirits, just cocktails, etc. over the festive period and next nights out.

Bit of a change from Saturday's hangover hell caused by 2 pints of lager, ~13 vodka and cokes and 2 Jaegers. :D

I've in the last few months gone right of alcohol. It's weird really but I just dont fancy it. I've been out on a few nights out and had 2-3 pints and then just gone onto soft drinks. Its not a bad thing!

1 - 3 maybe pushing into 4 - 5 but I drink Guinness so take my time with it now, when I used to drink lager the pints would be lot higher.

back in the day the bar next to the cinema in Chester used to have a challenge, if you could down a yard of booze in 1 within a time limit you got it for free. 90% of people tried it with lager, and that is quite a challenge as it's gassy.

I used to do Guinness. For a good 6 months i had a free headstart on my drinking . the bar went under in the end...... hopefully not because of that challenge.

Varies. From as little as two pints becuase i just havent been in the mood to a full on bender of several pints followed by mroe than 10 double measure spirits with spirits. Biggest bender was when i was younger and stopped/lost count after 17 pints but stayed out drinking for a few hours more.
