How many lesson's/hr's did it take you to pass?

I did 2x 2hr lessons, then took my test. I spent 6 months driving with my parents and friends. I learnt how to drive in my grandmother's fields, as well as other private land when I was a young teenager. It was just a question of learning how to pass the driving test really.

From memory - so there needs to be an allowance of a few %.

Started lessons 2 weeks after my 17th birthday.
Had approx. 14 1hr lessons, weekly.
1hr prior to the test.
Passed first time with 6 minor faults.

13 I think, although some of those where 2 hour lessons, so probably about 18 hours. Didnt have chance to really go out with parents etc as componys cars forbade it, but I had been riding a motorbike from age 16 so I had 'road sense' and confidence which helps a lot.

Apparently the average always used to be approximately 1 hour per your age (ie the older you get the more lessons you need)

No idea how many lessons, started learning late September, theory in October, booked test straight after that, earliest date avaliable for Feb 14th. Did take many lessons in between December and Feb to save money.

How did people on here manage to pass without extra practice in under 10 hours? I know it comes naturally for some people but thats just mad.
I've had 10 hours of tuition so far and am confident enough when I'm driving but I haven't covered all aspects of the course yet.
Did you all just have fantastic instructors?

Too be honest I think a lot of people have selective memories when it comes to driving lessons. Most people take over 30 lessons.

Well for me, I spent a lot of time driving in fields and on private land. (learning clutch control, and changing gears etc... Oh and the odd bit of handbrake turn fun ;))

I then spent 6 months driving around London with "L" plates. And then did 2 lessons and then took my test - gosh that was a while ago now! I'm not saying it's the best way of doing it, but I passed my test with a few minors and have been driving constantly ever since. :) My instructor was pretty good, but he told me all he needed to teach me was what I needed to pass my test - there's not much to learn for the driving test. You only really start to learn to drive by getting experience on the road.

In my opinion they should do it like they do it France, whereas you HAVE to clock up 40hrs(?) of driving before you're even able to do your test. It means you get a lot of on road experience which is far more important.

about 8 lessons with an instructor, took the test and passed*.

*(this excludes the numerous hours i did as a learner with my dad teaching me in the passenger seat :) )

Unfortunately I have to do all my learning with my instructor as my parents won't let me drive their hairdresser-mobile (Audi TT) :(
I'm not really all that bothered about how many lessons it takes as money isn't an issue, just want to have passed by September :D

6hrs of lessons but a few more with parents/brother in car. I learnt to drive bikes then tractors first :D

Maybe some people don't take years to grasp amazingly simple concepts? No need to get quite so sceptical, is there?

I'd never Driven Before my lessons... and My Dad wouldn't let me near the car during (and still wont!!) 32 Hours long Lessons... Passed first time!.. :D

And that was when Lessons were £8-10!... Nothing like the £20-30 now :p

Did 1 year on 2 wheels befoew taking my test so the road sense and rules awareness was already there.
Drove cars for years on private land as a kid so I knew how to control the car no problem.

It was just a case of putting the skills in to a "car on the road context", which took 4 hours.

More or less what I did except compressed your six months into about 2000 miles in six weeks with my Dad. I wanted to go for the test without any formal lessons but my father said I needed to learn how to pass not how to drive. For example learning from him I always scaled down the gears which was a hang up from when engine braking was more important. Instructor told me 4th to 2nd to pass the test. I believe now days you can go fourth to neutral if coming to a stop?

Definitely didn't get my talent from my mother who took over 400 lessons in 10 years in two countries and failed all four tests. In Switzerland she is actually banned for taking another test without having a psychiatric examination. (It is the law there if you fail multiple times)

Am I the only person who hasn't got a clue? I see people mention on here quite frequently how many lessons they had but at the time it really didn't occur to me to keep count.

I only remember as my first ten lessons were ten pounds each if booked in one go and only had a couple at full price so it sticks in the brain easily enough.

Who mentioned years? I just find it hard to believe the number of people here who passed in under 10 lessons, 1/4 of the average.

Took me around 90 hours i think, with a mixture of 1 and 2 hour lessons with 3 different instructors. I managed to pass on the sixth attempt about 12 months after my first lesson, i put it down to the fact that i can be quite nervous in test situations and i'm not a very confident person.
