How many lesson's/hr's did it take you to pass?

I just passed my theory yesterday :D

And I have my driving test on the 1st of August so by then I would've had about 30 or so lessons. Hopefully I pass it first time, though.

24 lessons plus 2 lessons before each of the two tests i took.

Plus 4 or 5 trips out in my Mum's Metro during the time i was learning.

One of my friends passed on his fifth attempt and then never drove again. Tragic waste of time and money.

it took 9 months of on and off lessons for me to pass. I was only doing an hour a week or similar

Possibly around 30 maybe more. (I block paid on a credit card for a number of lessons with the AA and the intructor must have seen me as a cash cow)

Also had plenty of experience outside of the test.

Also had my test in one of the quietest test centres (Penzance)

But it still took me 3 or 4 attempts I think it was 3 can't be sure.

But I have an excuse for each one

1) Instructor changed cars the day before, went from a brand new Fiesta Ghia to a mankey old Renault Clio with a digital clutch

2) After ditching my instructor I took the test in my own Brand New Car, found I had a flat tyre managed to pump it up but was in a bad mental state so failed.

3) Passed!

So basicly I'm useless at taking drivers tests.

I'd had 10 hours total driving before I was put in for my test, extra hour before test, passed first time, but with 11 minors!

Had around 40 hours til my first test, but I didn't do any kind of practice outside of my lessons and I was a totally awful driver when I first started. I've probably improved ten times as much since I passed than I did during the whole period I was learning for.

Who mentioned years? I just find it hard to believe the number of people here who passed in under 10 lessons, 1/4 of the average.
Yea but then you have to realise that this is the motors section, which would mean the majority of posters here are car enthusiasts and were probably very keen on passing their driving tests.
It would be entirely different if you asked this sort of thing on the street with people who don't even care about cars and probably had no intention of trying to pass within 10 lessons. That's where you would see this 'average' number.

I took an intensive route to my lessons in that i booked them all within 2 weeks. In total i ended up only getting 17 hours done which was about 9 lessons as most were 2 hours. (wish i had done more)

My birthday was the 5th of April (a month ago) and i was a bit too enthusiastic about it so threw myself in the deep end and took the test on the 21st of April which i luckily passed first time. Going to finish off my passplus on June 4th.

Then again the first day driving on my own was a great shocker, realising my car is completely different and more powerful than the instructors and that there is no one to tell me what i'm doing wrong. It's true, you don't start learning till you pass. Though i'm fairly confident now (maybe by too much?) and drive at any opportunity possible.

If i could do it again and weren't so impatient then i would spend 6+ months and get as many lessons possible.

Hence why I said in #16 that asking here won't give a realistic average :)

I'm very keen on passing my driving test too, but have still had 21 lessons.

About 3 in the car

I just drove illegally for a few years after going a bit off the rails.

Then got busted and 9 points killed any thoughts of a decent car.

THen many years later I used to drive my mates car (he was a driving instructor witha dual cintrol car ;)) did a few "offical" lessons with him and passed my test with 3 minors (two were totally unfair but not really worth moaning about)

Bike I did 8 hours in a few days and passed with 2 minors for "wobbles" not bad for never being on a bike before, scarry that within 6 days of getting on a bike for the first time I was riding a gsxr600 to and from work :p

i don't know about the rest of you but i can honestly say the drive i did on my actual test was the worst i'd done upto that point.
i couldn't believe he'd passed me as i was positive i'd made at least 2 fatal mistakes.

What is there to learn, i bought a car and learnt how to drive in that, took about a month of practicing once per day. Then had 5 hours of touch up's for passing the test.

Passing the pathetic test is not a hard thing to do, actually learning to drive properly is something that i am still very much learning as we all are.
