Well I always refer to a cut sandwich as halves... so following that logic two halves make a whole sandwich. So 1 sandwich, or 2 halves.

To be fair, the argument of whether it's one or two in my mind has been overshadowed with this 'rounds' nonsense *scratches head*

I back up Gilly's statement that if you refer to bread in 'rounds' your opinion on the number of sandwiches is pretty much invalid

Ooh that's a bit weird - if I asked for 4 sarnies I'd get 4 slices of bread, cut into 2 each. I haven't had sarnies that small since I was about 4 years old
