(we both say 1 as well - if I asked for 4 sandwiches, I'd get 8 pieces of bread...and called a piggy)
Actually that does make sense.......ohh dear. I'm confused :(

I have four things to say on this.

  1. Some people have too much times on their hands, to even be discussing this.

  2. I must be one of them. :o ;)

  3. Two slices = One sandwich. You make a sandwich by putting filling between two pieces of bread. Ergo, when you cut it in half, you are creating two halves out of a whole.

But, had the maker put some filling on half of one slice, then folded it into a sandwich, he'd have a sandwich. Had he then repeated that process with a second slice, he'd have another sandwich, making two sandwiches from two slices. And had he used the same filling in each, he'd have the same result as the guy that put filling between two slices and then cut it in half. So, maybe this is proof that 1 = 2.

  4. Why the hell do I care how many it makes?

There's one sandwich cut in half.

If you cut me in half there wouldn't be two Robs. There'd be one Rob cut in half.

(and presumably some blood)

However, a sandwich and you are fundamentally different (AFAIK).

If someone were to cut you in half, you would cease to function; thus it should be said that there was merely two halves of a dead Rob. If, upon slicing you in two, both halves were able to continue their lives independently, then there would have course you would be able to say that there were now two Robs

If someone were to cut a sandwich in half, both sandwiches would continue to perform their roles and functions. They can be eaten independently. One can be moved from a plate to someone's lunchbox while the other is eaten by the family dog. They are not reliant upon each other for their continued existence.

Using this logic as such, (and as a Northerner) I declare that there are two sandwiches. Can any Southerners show me why I'm wrong, or are you prepared to accept defeat? :D
