Title says it all really.

I'm 18, Full time employment, have my own car, 1years NCB on bike, and I'm getting (what I think to be) crap quotes (£1k fully comp - £684 TPFT - £493 TP).

Are they high prices for my age or is anybody out there the same age-range with similar bike paying less for insurance?

Worth waiting til I'm 19 (december) and getting insurance then?

Any advice/replies are appreciated :)

Haven't bought a bike yet, but looking at the ER6F as they seem to be one of the lowest insurance group bikes of my liking.

I paid about the same when I started driving at about your age. Admittedly I had a car not a bike (Ford KA 1.3). Seems normal to me. For what it is worth insurance seems to drop in stages, it will steadily drop with no claims bonus but also as you turn 21 and 25 it seems further significant premium drops occur.

About €1100 which I was totally expecting to pay. I know it's not cheap, but considering the bike, it's worth it, for me at least!

£1000 full comp, for 61 plate bike left on drive. With commuting to work.

3 points and £3000 fault claim

24 female

1 year no claims on bike policy

So, looking at it, i suppose your quotes are about right as i think im deamed high risk and you're younger and male (we all know mens insurance is higher)

I guess the quotes I'm getting aren't too bad then! Thanks for the replies ;)

Probably not worth making another thread for; but is there any harm on putting 33bhp restrictor kits on e.g. ER6F / GSX650F / SV650's / XJ6's ? I've been reading up and getting mixed views on it.

if it were me i simply wouldnt bother, just dont go mad headed on it,if you do have an acident though then chances are your claim would be void and after spending all that on insurance its better to get one fitted and be legal, shouldnt be to hard to fit,it justs limits the bikes speed/throttle

and keep phoning around for quotes, your bound to get it cheaper

Not for those engines no, there is no real harm in fitting a restrictor as they're not the sort of engines that are designed to be trashed, say like a GSX-R 600 engine.

£125 FC 1 years no claims ER6f.

When I told a friend this, he's in his late 20's, he said Oh I pay around that as well on my Golf GTI. I said to him that seemed very low for that car and him at his age and he said not really it was a lot to pay per month.

When i told him mine was for the year he looked crestfallen and said I was an old something or other :D

Had my 2009 ER-6f restricted when I first got it. It was just a plug-in loop that went under the seat and a throttle stop screw :) Still very easy to hit bannable speeds :p

Aprilia RSV Mille - £112 fully comp with protected NCB. 41 years old, over 10 years no claims. Declared mods of Evoluzione airkit, Rheinteknic ECU chip and twin high mount stainless Renegade exhaust system. None of those mods added to my premium which was rather surprising.
