would need to be at least 8gb, the 4gb on the 290x is good but i like pixels, i've set up a shelter for them in my study and i'm accumulating as many as i can.

a single 290x struggles at 5040*1200 for some things, although most is still very much playable, as much as 4k is tempting i know i dont have the horsepower for it yet.
 
I voted 8gb, though as a single you user I think 4gb will still do the job in 99% of the time, one does want it to be 100% if possible for at least a year after purchase.

I do not see any game needing more than 8gb using a single gpu for a very long time.
