Why dont you go out and get something thats better with the money?

My GF's sister bought one and was relying on me and my PC for her music the problem was when she bought it.....IT DIDNT COME WITH AN AC ADAPTER! i mean WTF's up with that, so needless to say it went straight back she grabbed herself an archos xs200 and hasnt looked back! there plenty of stuff out there that looks better and works better and is WAYYYY cheaper.

unless you really want an Ipod in which case its your decision.

tbh I might go down the Archos route as im not overly keen with iTunes anyway for transfering files across to it.

I think im more disappointed because I know the Missus spent her Xmas bonus on it for me.

the ipods also cost more to repair than replace! how stupid!

I've seen minis going for sub £100 nowadays, been tempted to get some for spairs and start fixing em

but they are hard to open up (metal case etc) unlike the nanos and normal Ipods where you can just pop em open quite easly!

Have a look around first...I will admit im an archos fanboy..(ive lost count how many i have now...1.2.3...no i havent 8! :eek: ) but they do exactly what it says on the tin, they show as seperate hard drives which make life so much easier the only thing id suggest is go get a decent set of headphones as usually the ones they send are not up to scratch. ;) see you started me off! :p
 
seems a bit steep, but from what i've read sounds pretty standard for ipod repairs. They just seem designed so that you have to upgrade every couple of years.
 
why not get yourself a decent player? - like an iaudio?

i mean, i bough a used for 1 year olympus m:robe and its magic, ive owned around 8 months used around 3 hours per day, its gets bashed about and dropped all the time and is still in perfect working order - the software aint great but hey you cant have everything ;)

really small and light and looks great

any idea whats actually wrong with it? - im sure you can source battery's and stuff

Instead of all this get in contact with consumer direct and read up on the sale of goods act.
If this item is under 5 years old you have every probability of a free repair or significant contribution towards replacement.
the onus is on the retailer who sold you the goods to sell you something of acceptable quality and durability. That means that if joe average considers an ipod should last problem free for 5 years then a court is likely to as well.

Warranties are an absolute con. An ipod should last longer than that.

Agreed, I've got a MuVo2 5Gb which cst me £90. Works perfectly with iTunes, WMP, Winamp etc., has a great sound and when it breaks, I'll just buy another.

Although I suppose they justify it as covering any repair, but it's still over the op given the price of the unit, and the fact that you would expect it to last longer than that :(



Nintendo on the other hand when I contacted them about a repair for a DS that had been dropped (so definately out of warrantee ;)) quoted £45 (probably what they sell them for wholesale) if I sent the broken one to them, which I thought was pretty good as they had no obligation to make such an offer.
 
its a rip off, some places are decent when it comes to repairs though, acer replaced a pda id dropped for a brand new unit, all for free, and creative replaced my zen micro (which had been dropped by my sis, and then sold to me for £30) for free as well.
 
when i bought my ipod mini, i also bought an extended 3 year (i think) warranty, which was like £40 i believe, this included all product related failures etc, just not theft and such like. maybe you should consider this in future !
being the fool i am, i just bought an ipod video, and never use my mini, but if i ever go back to it - i can worry less :D
 
also, my steelsound 5H's just broke after a couple of months, and they have said they'll replace them for free and throw in a QcK pad for my troubles!
 
my vote is 4 the archos gmini 202 XS, its about 130 quid for a 20GB mp3 player with a screen, acts as a removable drive, its ronseal, does exactely what is says on the tin, and its really small, 20gb and smaller than your ipod mini
