How Nvidia Won and AMD Lost the GPU War

If £1200 GPU is called victory, then those who lost are the consumers not AMD.
Absolutely.

All they’ve done long term is killed the golden goose.

I know nobody I’m my group of high end pc owning mates who’s planning to buy a new GPU and quite a few either already have or are planning to ditch pc gaming altogether and go console, they all concede pc gaming is better but not by being taken for mugs by Nvidia.

Well they've lost me, AMD cards are just far better value, especially when paired with FREE SYNC, as GSYNC is just another NV ripoff. I started off building exclusively green systems years ago, now it's the other way around and i'll go AMD/FREESYNC and will support AMD buy buying Ryzen as well next time around.

NV have simply exploited their customers, knowing full well that high end 'enthusiasts' will pay any price.

I have that feeling at the moment. I dont expect to upgrade now for a long time after doing a major one this year but I expect the next round of nvidia cards to be the same price if not more than the RTX series now. If AMD get it right in next couple of years they could seriously hurt nvidia as there is now a massive gap in pricing that could be exploited with the right card at the right price. With my current monitor there are a few minor issues I have noticed with pixels that do not bother me at the moment but I wouldnt be surprised if in a few years time my next monitor and GPU is on the AMD side. Cheaper too. Lets hope AMD come back at Nvidia like they did with Intel.

That hasn't stop Intel ignoring the competition pricing what they want. Look at both mainstream and HEDT as we speak.

AMD are not out of the running whatsoever. If their previous strategy is anything to go by they will release a GPU that will be 90% of the performance for 50-60% of the price. Consumers benefit from competition and its just the narrow minded that discount AMD cards vs Nvidia.

They haven't done that with either Vega 64 or Fury x.

You may mock Jim @AdoredTV but he knows his stuff. Usually well thought out and back up with figures and links.

It was 12.05am this morning and I had just caught up with my youtube subscriptions, when I got the ding and seen a 30min+ adored tv video. Wasn't in bed then until late...

Side note - I had a standard 1080p monitor when I got my vega56. Decided to buy a freesync monitor and what a difference. People can espouse Intel and 5.0Ghz all they want, but when you have a card and screen that syncs then there's no need for a 5.0 cpu. The screen is butter smooth gameplay with a lesser CPU, but using freesync. You'd be hard pushed to tell what CPU I had when gaming.

Clicked link.
Heard voice.
Closed vid.

:p
Funny that, I use the same procedure.
;)

I know what you mean and no offence to Jim but the voice is rather annoying.
But having said that I did watch it all and I must say it is a very good video, very factual and accurate as far as I can remember the way events unfolded.

In my opinion well worth the time taken to watch it, cheers.:)

Couldn't agree more, if it wasn't for my 27" Dell 1440p GSync screen, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to put up with my 6 core [email protected] and a 970.
The variable refresh rate technology is a must, GSync or FreeSync as both work very well nowdays.

Massive amounts of spin in some cases, ignoring some of the facts and figures he mentions to draw a different consultation to the situation

the video he did where he complains about the lack of performance jumps compare to generations of old is an example of this.

Did you just assume his gender? :O

If it's female, my condolences go out to his immediate family. I mean...her.

Do you think if the RTX2080Ti was £3200 people would still buy it?

Look how many TITAN V owners there are in the enthusiast community. Or how few, I should say.

Anyway, regarding the "OP" or whatever Jim wants to throw conjecture at this time. AMD hasn't so much lost as they just simply need to make a product that performs. You can throw all sorts of armchair debating at the subject and it won't change anything.
