How old were you when you got your first PC?

First PC was the Amstrad with the fan in the screen when I was 2/3 back in 91/92, dad was in the tech industry so had a load floating about the house and there was some low key educational software on it that I'd get to play.

Had a 386 when I was 4 that could do some proper games which was way more memorable! Still enjoy Raptor call of the shadows every so often now

13. We'd had family PCs before that but I got my own PC for Christmas. An eMachines with a Celeron 633MHz, 15GB HDD, 64GB of RAM (which I upgraded to 192MB about 6 months later) and intel graphics which I upgraded with a GeForce 2MX 32MB PCI. The salesman at PC World convinced my mum to upgrade to a 17" monitor too, which was amazing at the time.

For myself, probably around 12 and i remember building it with my mum using bits from a local PC shop (large Bolton retailer) when they were at their old units, it was a AMD K6-2 450mhz, i don't remember if i used the inbuilt graphics for a while and then upgraded to a Voodoo card later on or got it all together.

Prior to that we'd had home computers since the Windows 95 days and i remember playing Hugos House of Horrors.

I had to be 40+ and bought a Spectrum and did a bit of nightschool on how to work it -Total failure.
Next one was Packard Bell from the big shop. Got my head round that but the wait --hit enter and go make 10 cups of tea
Next was from that place up north that builds them to you spec -Vast inprovement. - Brother uses it now .
Finally about 8 yrs ago (at 70) built my own from bits from overclockers -Amazingy it worked perfect and is still going strong.

I was 22 and it was in 1991. An i486DX running at 50Mhz. Bought it a month or so after starting my first job. Cost an arm and a leg.

cant remember what i played back then but do remember Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss coming out in March 1992. Played that for 36 hours none stop after getting it.

I had had a zx spectrum and a BBC micro prior to this.

Had access to a shared PC from about 10 years old in 1998, didn’t get my own until I was 16 in 2004 (My dad helped me buy the parts to put one together)

Got my first PC when I was 20 in 1991, a Dell 386sx16. That's the only PC I've ever actually bought, every one since then has been an evolution of that one, aka Trigger's Broom.

First computer was a BBC Micro when I was 10ish.

about 15 or 16 and it was just to keep me out of trouble

I had a c64 and an amiga 1200+ loads of consoles.
I would have one thing and my brother would have the other

apart from playstation 1 we both had our own

Bought all by myself from the ESCOM shop in Edinburgh with money I’d saved from my weekend job. I was 17. It was a 486DX2-66 with 4MB of ram, a 545Mb hard drive and came with IBM PC DOS! It cost me £1,142.56. Mad how I can remember that. Oh and a 14” monitor.

Our parents got us an Olivetti PC in the early-mid 90s, I’d have been 13-14. I think it had a 133Mhz CPU and we upgraded the hard drive to 600MB.

1991, I was 18 and brought the parts in south London, just over Battersea bridge. cost me 800 pounds, including the keyboard, mouse and CRT VGA screen. 486sx 25mhz, 4mb of RAM, 120mb HD. Ran Dos 5 at the time I think.

1986 I got an Amstrad CPC 6128 which I guess was my first computer, but it was not technically a PC.

My sister had and Olivetti 286, maybe 1988, but it wasn't mine. I got into terrible trouble for taking it apart!

About 18 around 98, a mighty packard bell pulsar with integrated ati rage 8mb graphics, 64 gigs of ram, a 333mhz slot one celeron, and a 6 gig hard drive. The integrated graphics was replaced with a voodoo 3 2000 pci after a while :).

Built my first PC in 1992 while at uni - a 386 dx40 with a whopping 105mb hard drive and 4mb of ram. Prior to this I'd had the usual suspects (commodore 64, Amiga etc) so this much ram and hard drive space seemed insane - Wolfenstein 3d and Ultima underworld ran like a dream

Spectrum 16k as soon as they came out in 1982, when I was 12. Told dad it was for programming. Immediately got a pirate copy of Arcadians off a mate, which pretty much ruined my life.

First pc was around 28 (1998ish). Bought it from PC World with no idea about specs, in the hope of playing Quake 2 and Unreal. Immediately started on a cycle of upgrades that cost a fortune. Not as big a fortune as my 1p a minute internet bill though...

I was 18. I went from an amiga 1200. Got an olivetti from radio rentals. Pentium 75 based system. Theme park was the forst game i played on it and i remember thinking it was much better than the amiga version.
