How quickly can you row 1000 metres?

Decided to give this a go after my morning run (i run then go to the gym for a little bit/sauna/shower to avoid disturbing the wife early on)

Got 4:10 for the 1000m, was just taking it fairly easy and figured it's a good way to work everything after a run. Plan is to build up to 5000m i think. Will check out the technique videos :)

Last thing I usually do before I leave is the rower and have usually set a target of keeping it under four minutes for each kilometre. Normally keep it hovering about there, just under depending on what I've done before and what distance I'm aiming for.

3.50 for 1km but that was comfortable as part of a longer workout. 3.40 should be doable and even under that I would suspect - Will have a good go at it soon.

I tend to aim for sub or on 1.50 per 500m when rowing.

Went back today and hit 4:02

As with @booyaka above, i used to do around 1:45-1:50 for the 500m mark so i think if i wanted to "go for it" i can get down to nearer the 3.45 mark. Just wanting to build up some core strength by rowing for a longer duration at the moment.

Good to see people using the ergs! :)

I've never actually done a 1km test but I can do a sub 7min 2km.. Just. I'm firmly in the lightweight class at 70kg so I'm fairly happy with my time but I'd like to knock a bit more off as I'm aiming for the EIRC in January.

Good shout - I think I'll have a go at this tomorrow and see what happens. Saying that I was squating tonight so legs probably ruined for tomorrow. Will set a benchmark and see what I can do as part of my Crossfit training for the rest of the year.

Gave it a go today. 13 seconds faster than 3 months ago. Happy with that. Not much left, maybe went out a touch hard. Sub 3.30 next time. A fair amount of weight training/squating this week as well.

No specific training for this just a challenge

Turned up at the gym tonight and programmed was 2 x 1000m rows into 4 x 250m rows. Max efforts (rest was the same time as you row)

Really wanted that sub 3.30.....Got it....just

Then 4 x 250m blast - managed a massive 2.4 second PB on the last one - 46 seconds dead.

A decade ago I could do a 2:56 1km. Now I’m guessing it will be in the 3:10 range - doesn’t sound like much but that’s a huge drop off in power. Oh well I guess that’s the trade off with getting older and having a proper job!

I’ll give it a bash next time I’m on it!

That's impressive! 3:10 would be about my absolute best. Are you a heavyweight?

Thought I'd give this a go last night. Managed it in 4:56... Tis fairly slow I know, but I still clinically qualify as overweight so hopefully I can improve on that xD

I had a crack yesterday, didn’t really feel like it so (you know when you are not really in the mood for the gym but go anyway). Gave it a steady 95% to see where my boundaries lay and got a 3:08.7.

I’ll try it again at the weekend, I reckon I could probably do a 3:05 now - so not as much wastage over 10 years as I originally thought (thank goodness!).
