I use them! I have to get mine posted though :(

Yeah, would get things delivered, except we were driving virtually past on the way to Hay on Wye, and they said that we could collect our order if it's done by prior arrangement.
So here it is, £46 well spent....

The sack of grain is MUCH larger than it looks there.

And as a bonus, I was able to pick up a homebrew beer book in Hay, so now to look at the recipies.

We've just syphoned into the primary fermenter. OG of 1.054. Used almost 200g of hops! Compared to 40g for our first brew. Eeek. But it was 35g of challenger for 90 mins, and then 50g each of challenger and cascade for the last 5 mins, and then a further 50g of cascade at the end of the boil. I do like cascade though. All the pubs near us that have been oing Mastens Single Hop promotion have given it up as a bad idea, and it's Cascade for May. I'm gutted.

Just ordered a load of stuff from the hop shop.

looking forward to getting some citra and making a grapefruity hoppy IPA for summer :)

1 x Citra Hops - Alpha 14.5% - 2011 Harvest (Price per 100g) = £3.99
5 x Safale S-04 - Original Packaging (Price per 11.5g pack) = £9.25
1 x Target - Alpha 11.12% - 2011 Harvest (Price per 100g) = £2.25
1 x Flaked Barley (Price Per Kilo) = £1.18
1 x Bobek (Styrian Golding) - Alpha 5.17% - 2011 Harvest (Price per 100g) = £2.25
1 x Challenger - Alpha 7.9% - 2011 Harvest (Price per 100g) = £2.25
1 x (A) Maris Otter Crushed - 25 KG Sack - Thomas Fawcett (Price Per 25KG) = £25.42

Was reading Stone's book the other day in the Brewdog pub. They had one recipe which must have had at least 7 different variety of hops and an insane amount of them at that. An awful lot of dry hopping. Need to find this beer!

Come home to this today

IMG_20120430_160449.jpg

4Kg marris otter
500g mild ale malt
500g caramalt
100g east kent goldings
100g tettnang
4 muslin bags
saflager us-05
mash/grain bag

woohoo the ipa is on!

Sounding tasty there Kanifee. We used Nottingham yeast for our hoppy UBU clone, and I'm reading now that it can reduce hoppiness. Bum.
Still, I'm hoping for the best. And it's all a learning experience.
Put all grain #3 in the fermenter yesterday too, a wheat/wit beer. Was fun to make, but we really need a wort chiller and hop filters to get clear wort into the fermenter.
But we've started. It's only forward from here. ;)

really need a wort chiller ;)

That and some hoselock bits. :)

Well we barreled our "UBU Clone" last night and had a small try of it. Not much like UBU. It's nice, but much closer to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in colour, mouthfeel (although I know it needs more carbonation yet which could change that) smell and taste.
Good thing I like SNPA, but unfortunatly MrsSeakitchen is less keen on it. But maybe this will be different enough from that to change her mind.
