How to brew your own beer

And yes, all the homebrew ive tasted has tasted better, bt dont forget it depends on the kit aswell :)

Would it make any difference if I used reverse osmosis water instead of tap water?

Also there's a lot of kits to chose from, got any recommendations?

Hey, thanks for taking the time to post, but could you go over these points?

when you say hot water, Is this boiled in a kettle? how much hot water? etc

also point 3:
do you make up the mixture with hot water or cold?

The total mixture needs to be around 20-21 degrees. If you put yeast into cold water you can kill it. Same if you put it in to hot.

You can get the proper wrapa rround heaters for about £9.99!

yep that's all you need, you adjust the temperature by placing it higher or lower on the barrel. Good way of doing it is make the mixture up, put it where you going to keep itt. Put the heater on. Leave for a few hours. take the temp and if it's spot on add the yeast.

what the hell is that

Edit - just wikied it, yes that would be better than tap water. If you do it a lot people get filters that remove contaminants from the water. the purer the better.

Im not sure mate tbh.

Ill go and ask.

Kit wise, i bought a cheap 7 quid kit as i didnt want to spend too much to start but take your pick. Look at the descriptions of the beer ect. It bepends on wether you want cider, beer, bitter ect

Thats the best bit, the possibilities are endless.

I had a thermoter and i added the cold water to the hot and when it reached 22 degrees that when i added the yeast. I then warmed soem water and got that to 22 degrees and added it. I then put it into a greenhouse which isnt recommended, but realised my mistake when it got to 25 degress but i managed to keep it a near 19-22 all through the 7 days

I would have thought it might detriment the taste since you're removing everything from the water.

Is tapwater best for these kits? or is it just a case of it being pretty much free

No i mean some hard core enthusiasts had bottled water but it really doesn't seam to matter. The kit i had suggested tap water. So i mean tap water does seam to be the better

The wife and I brew mead and various fruit wines. We're due to brew up LOTS of mead very soon (now that we're seasonally correct), so I'll post a guide if anyone wants ;)

Thanks for your help chaps :) Ive ordered some Muntons gold India pale ale as it sounds very interesting -

India Pale Ale was created to keep troops supplied with fresh beer in the British East Indies. This special beer was brewed to a high alcoholic strength to prevent spoilage during the long voyage. On arrival the beer was 'watered down' to normal pub strength for the troops. Officers, of course, had access to the non-diluted version!

I'll get the other equipment from my local town on Monday.

Is there a kit for about a tenner i can get somewhere or online if its in total (pp in it too) for 15 or under. Sounds fun to try. Is there any mixtures that will get me a nice ale like newcastle brown ale? As id love to make my own stuff. Also whats the best way to accuratly make the % of the beer, im thinking 8% or 10% per pint.

Also can u do spirits on the cheap to make something like jack daniels lol.

Untill you've done it a few times do it by the manual. As trying to increase the strength will mean buying separate yeast and changing sugar quantities.

I doubt you'll get anything for £15. Most of *** starter kits don't come with a barrel.

How much does it smell if you do it in your house?

Are you best to try and get it in the garage or something instead?

I got told not to seal the original bin as the pressure will build and it mght spray, so should i seal it or not?
