How To Make Sure Crossfire Is Working?

I've just popped bf4 on my pc.

I have a gigabyte 7950 and an msi 7950.

At the mo, because i didn't really look into it, i have both cards at 1000 / 1250, which is the stock gigabyte settings. The stock for MSI is 960 /1250 I haven't changed the power control, im going to tick all the shindigs you say, after my reinstall tomorrow (new ssd yay).

I've finnally got a stable 4.5 oc on my 8350, so i think it may be the GPUS not playing ball, they never ran at 100% usually between 50-70% each, giving me a low of maybe 35 frames on ultra, which was slightly odd.

So now i've decided to look into it, what should i set my core and memory to? the gigabyte one does get a bit hot now and then, ive added new fans and it stays around 65c under load.

I was thinking of dropping the core voltage a tad on the giga? or shall i add the power controll and up the MSI one?

Ta very much. Nice guide though, would have been running dodgy settings if i didnt see this one.

I'd run both cards at stock until you get things worked 100% then slowly increase the core or memory one at a time in 25mhz segments. Makes it easier to track problems.

Because the MSI has a lower stock, i assume i will underclock the gigabyte to 965MHz. I think it was the MSI that i just decided the whack it up, since nothing bad happened i just kept it. Ta very much.

Edit: ****e, just read on the MSI website that the twin frozer has a stock core clock of 880MHz, i must have been pushing it way to much. time to tone that down i think.

However in afterburner, it showed as 960. which one should i listen to?

Hi MAtt,

Soory to be a pain, but I know have the Afterburner showing the frame pacing, shows xfire enable, like your screen shots, but still doesnt seem to be working.

uninstalled the drivers and catalyst and reinstalled latest,

Msi is showing 2 GPUs but only one is showiing any movem, ent reasdings wise, could this be because the cards are not being pushed?

Downloaded 3dmark, but sdodding thing wont install

Prod uninstall and re download it?

Dunderhead (barry!)

Sounds like a boost card. 880mhz stock but boosting to 960 under load assuming temps are within check. Have you noticed the card throttling at all?

It sure it was to be fair, at 1000MHz both cards would go to 50-70% and not any higher. Processor wasn't at 100% so im sure its no the CPU limiting it. Just seemed low frames is all, ill fiddle with the settings after a fresh install, so it should be best of the best.

Also, don't be a tit like me and try to play BF4 in borderless mode. Forgot about the Whole Fullscreen for crossfire thing.

Hi MAtt,

well I had to go to Pesky work for a while.

I had re downloaded 3dmark and ran it and lo anbehold, both carsd cranked up to max and returned a score of
Ice Storm 178197
Cloudgate 28510
Score 10355
showing 94% better than scores

so it looks like all is well and they are working ok.

This test was run with all stock settings except ulps Disabled.

Am I good to go now?
sorry for being such a frickin dunce, but im not used to delving into the mystical world of software etc. I'm just so ignorant of these things.

But I learned a little today.

Might try upping the cores/memory through Afterburner later.

Cheers again

remind me again what i should be aiming for, not into the old bios flashing etc, my core would melt down just reading it, never mind my i7s.
Although is there any point just for gaming as that 3dmark result looks pretty impressive. In real world gaming is there any need for more than that?

Im not trying to win any awards here ;)

do you know that is a very good question. I suppose to get the best gaming experience that will do justice to all the money i have invested. to do justice to my lovely new ASUS 2560 x 1440 monitor. Just been playing BF4 and it looks amazing. However when I run the performance test in the game it tells me my performance is bad and lower gfx settings. Doesn't look bad to me, no stuttering or lagging.

Ok well try to aim for 1100/1500. Failing that 1000-1050 core and 1400 memory.

Cheers for your help so far mate. Would have been rather stuck without your help.

Just ran Unigine heaven, would you say this is a decent score, for 1440p at least.

I had decent GPU usage, didn't really drop below 90%.

Both cards are set to 950/1250 with the 20% power limit slider. im not sure if its just bf4, but i never get a high GPU limit, always seems to hang in the 70s or 80s, wasn't being limited by CPU, that was in its 60s. I just feel like i should be getting more FPS, BF4 puts out anywhere between 35-70 Fps, i would just wish it would be higher for a two card combo.

I might just be wrong though, by all means.

All the information here has been extremely helpful.
