*** How to obtain a bike license ***

Reading the page, it says speeds of no more than 100mph will be used, they teach you things like emergency stops at 80mph while cornering, pretty much the extreme stuff to riding, could be worth it for the experience.

I'd still rather pass my test on the road (where I'd be using the bike) first though. If you want more training after on the road or track you can. Especially with the money you'll save doing it at a normal school!

Anyway, passed my MOD1 yesterday with no minors :)

MOD2 booked for next Wednesday.

You do :) all the training is on the track so you can get the power from the bike, you do mod1 training and then go to the official mod1 test centre, mod2 is also back on the road after you have done training on the track :)

I think it's 3 days track plus 2 days on the road, then mod1 and mod2 as normal :)

Congrats btw :)

Got my Mod 1 booked today. Having to do it in Wolverhampton, there is a 5 week waiting period. :( then another 6 weeks for mod 2!

Im used to being up early due to work but yeah, 6:45am is a bit silly. Only thing is I suppose I will miss the traffic on the M6. Another 6 weeks wait to get mod 2 done, summer will be almost over. :( Dont really have any other option however.

there's a few training places in Glasgow and surrounding areas. is there any that people would recommend for my cbt and full licence?

everyone see's the warm weather and books up that's why its chocca, best really to do it out of season/cold weather

Wow 6 weeks!? I did mine in season a few years ago and the training centre have pre-booked slots that they can then assign to anybody, did you not get that? It meant I could basically request a test and do it almost next day and if I had failed I could 2nd try as soon as the law allowed.

No nothing like that sadly. Not sure if I have just been unlucky and got a not so good training company. There are spaces next week at Burton on Trent. But I have had not had my mod 1 training yet, which is scheduled for the 14th June. Which is basically a week and a half before the test which imo is a pretty big gap off the bike.

Tests were all are booked by my training centre, they have two mod1's booked on a tuesday then two mod2's booked the following wednesdaywednesday (give you a chance to redo the mod1 if you fail).

So had about 4 weeks wait from enquiring but that's because the training centre is busy not the tests. Can't recommend bowlee enough if anyone's local.

:(I still haven't finished the CBT.

So biggest issue is clutch control and just getting it at that biting point for slow manoeuvres. I didn't really click with this for most of the day until he rode along side me. Then I was getting the hang of it more. At the end, before we finished, I was at the point where I was able to keep clutch control and make a turn (imagine a car park, and between the bays on both sides is the central area that cars will drive along, this was the area I was turning).

Was also doing a bit of gearing as well, this was pretty good. Some areas I was releasing too much clutch / or travelling a little fast for the down gear. Again, he rode with me and then this fell into place. The gearing up and down feels good and turning was good too.

Only time I fell was during an attempt to do figure of 8's in an area that wasn't that big. So I'm still not ready.... next time I'm going to book 2 days off work and try get 2 consecutive days.

Over last time it was an improvement and a step in the right direction. If I can just get that slow manoeuvres happening on a continues basis then I will be alright.

The other guy I was with, he was back doing his 3rd day and he managed to pass this time around. On the plus side, I was offered to ride pillion as he took the other guy out and listen in using the ear piece. That was the first time on even the back of a bike and it felt great :D

I would not worry about the time taken to pass the CBT. Some people are more natural than others when it comes to riding a bike. It's about mastering some simple skills and then trying to carry them out without over-thinking it.

I had a fear to begin with of the noise of the throttle and it was constantly unnerving me. Like yourself it took time to get used to Clutch Control and Gear Changing. I was coming from the perspective of having never driving a car which meant nearly all concepts were alien to me.

I had tried to complete CBT at one training school and moved to another one after struggles. The 2nd school I trained is where I managed to pass the CBT. I had no complaints about the standard of training at either establishment but I got more relaxed as I got more used to it. At the 2nd establishment the instructor tried to take me out for my rideout on a Saturday afternoon.

The level of traffic caused me to have a little panic and aborted and returned midweek and passed without issue.

You learn at your own pace.

In the end it's about being able to use the bike safely without you being a risk to yourself or any other vehicle user. Also riding pillion will give you a good idea of what the road ride-out encompasses.

Good luck

Why not do the CBT on a scooter but then just buy a geared bike to practice on in your own time? You'll get it eventually.

Thanks Gosties - I'm not too worried about how long it takes, sometimes these things happen.

Well that defeats my objective and the time I've had on the bike getting better. I do tend to make these posts sound worse then the day was, I had more good from the day rather than bad, and I would say the only issue was the clutch part until the very end, when it started to get better. I was even easing on the front brake much better than I have ever did before.

It isn't even as though I can't do it, as I've displayed I can do, even turning tighter than was asked of me, I just need to find a way to make them more consistent. So the more clutch practice I get should make a big difference. After that I think I'll fly by.:p

The most important thing I've found is don't over think it, if you're riding along thinking "Right I've got to do this this and this in that order" then you just end up flapping.
