*** How to obtain a bike license ***

How tall are you? I'm just under 6ft and the Honda cbr125 started giving me back pains so I moved to a naked bike as you're more upright, easier riding position.

Yeah I think I'm going to go the route of CBT > 125cc for a few months > DAS > 500/600cc

I'm about 5' 10/11" Would the CBR be too small for me? What is it like riding in the winter. I feel if I put it off any longer I wont ever do it so it's now or never

I had some back pain before buying a bike, the riding position of the cbr didn't help at all lol, as for winter riding, this will be my first, just wrap up warm as it gets cold once you're moving! :)

I can't stop looking at stuff now. Even looking at stupid bikes like a R6! Although I know that is many years away.

I'm more excited about getting a bike than I was about driving. It's not even like I have a boring car either (Fiesta ST but modified and put out 196bhp after re-map) but something about a motorbike, even a slow 125, is making me feel like an excited child!

Do you guys wear the full get up? I priced up helmet, jacket, shoes and jeans for £425.

youll get used to riding positions, usually any pain goes away after few weeks riding

best thing about a bike is everything feels much faster as your not hemmed in like a car

gear is essential imo,no matter what biek you ride, its gonna help save your skin should you ever come off

Yeah I did figure I would get everything. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

How did you guys justify this to partners/parents etc? I've just been giving an hour long telling off by my partner and her parents as to why I shouldn't get one.

That's more or less the approach I took just a tad more polite. I'm well aware bikes are naturally more dangerous but I like to think I'll respect that risk and not play pretend that I'm the new Marquez

Bit different when you have a wife and kids or kids in the future. Luckily mine doesn't mind at all, she worries but she's fine.

Once you get onto a big bike be prepared for every car to feel boring :D even a small 400 with 50bhp is as fast as a 300bhp car, 0-60 in 5 seconds.

Oh and all the gear, all the time.

I need to get my car licence, but like you said everything is going to feel like riding a snail coming from 0-60 in 3.5secs on the SV.

Would it be wise to go from a 125 to a 500 or can you go straight on to a 600?

I'll definitely be buying all the gear. Basic no frills stuff at first but eventually I would love to have several pieces of each. There are some amazing looking helmets out there

I went from one of the slower 125's a YBR to a 650 SV, absolutely no problems the bigger bike is much easier to ride to be honest.

Modern 600/800cc bikes are dead easy to ride, I did 6 months on a 125, did my DAS on an ER6N (650cc twin) and the first bike I test rode, in November, in the slight damp, was a Ducati Monster 821 - 112bhp of torquey v-twin.

Anything with between 50-100ish bhp is perfect as a first 'big' bike. you'll have ridden a 600cc bike as part of your training anyway.

Of course if you're under 24 you won't be able to ride something with 100bhp, you'll be limited -but you can still ride a 600, or bigger - as long as it falls under the restriction rules.
