*** How to obtain a bike license ***

Sounds like a plan.

Just tried to book my theory and they don't have it on weekends! Doubt my work will let me take a morning off for one either.

Why do we get punished for working full time :(

They usually go till quite late in the evenings though I think my local centre had spaces up until 6.30 is that not an option?

Latest my local one had was 3:30!

I'll check for other dates but it seems I wont be able to do it until November. I've got the bug and I've only done a CBT

They are normally open 8-8 Monday-Saturday. Have you checked with another centre? I think they're allowed to have different opening times.

panic over! Found one a bit later in November that I wanted but my theory is booked for the 12th.

Might call up the place I did my CBT and find out about Mod 1 training. Excited!

Yeah there's normally a longer wait for evening slots - deffo ring around a few places to get DAS costs, but don't book it until you've passed your theory, unless you're booking it months away.

Well I would try and get Mod 1 done ASAP. My instructor seemed to think I would be OK with the DAS after a day or 2 of training.

Yup, anyone who can ride a bicycle (and remembers to look up instead of at the ground) can do mod1 easily. No road rules as such (although you do need to do the double shoulder check before moving off every time), just simple control of the bike, which is easy to pick up after a few hours going round cones.

To be fair, MOD 1 is the hard bit of the test - it's easy to pass but also easy to fail.

MOD 2 is the easy bit if you've been riding for any amount of time.

I hear that a lot, but for me mod1 was the easy bit. Look up + shoulder checks + lots of speed through the traps will pass you easily. I suppose it is a bit easier to fail as if you put your foot down, you're done. But again, if you have spent any time on a bike, then it's easy.

It depends on the person really. Some really struggle with mod1 because of all the slow maneuvers but pass mod2 easily, some are opposite.

Mod2 is certainly easier than the car test as the instructor isn't right on top of you in a microscopic car staring at you the entire time :p. It's a lot easier to forget that it's an examiner instructing you, you can easily treat it like another lesson.

Yeah for me there was one part of the mod1 that I was really nervous about - the slalom/figure of 8. I nailed it with no faults :D but as you say, one tiny little slip and that's it, all over.

Mod2 is just going for a ride really, you just ride normally and safely and you'll pass.

Got my theory on Saturday at 9AM :)

Only issue I have is the hazard perception. I can see the hazards but I always mess up the clicking as I go too early and then too late if the hazard develops. Been jamming in a lot of mock tests though so I'm reasonably confident

Good luck. :)

I'm sure you'll ace it! I'm actually a bit worried about the hazard perception bit. The fact I've been on the road for a few years has made noticing hazards kind of automatic so I don't actively look for them. Plus what some may call a hazard I don't. I just guess anything which will cause me to change my speed or make me stop is a hazard.

Ran a few online mock theory and H&P and passed them both. Fingers crossed.

Can't wait to get my theory out of the way. I found the slow speed manoeuvres quite easy on the CBT but god knows how I'll find them on a heavier bike in Mod 1

The slow speed stuff is fairly easy as long as you use the back break & keep the revs up.

Passed the theory :) Now to save up money for gear and the actual tests! Got 44 on MCQ and 68 on hazard perception- Must be all the CSGO making my reactions better :p
