*** How to obtain a bike license ***

Yeah my description says I can ride a bike that exceeds x amount and I can ride a bike that doesn't exceed x amount lol. A1 is the most restricted, A2 the second most and A is unrestricted. Did you get your license prior to the recent rule changes?

That'll be why you have sensible language describing your entitlement then. The wording on licenses seems to get more and more convoluted every year

Is DAS typically much more challenging and/or expensive than just aiming for an A1? If I do it anytime soon, I am likely to need a hire bike regardless as I do not want to be restricted to an auto further down the line. I just do not know how likely I am to actually get a big bike, though I suppose I also worry that actually riding one will make me want to sell my first born to get one ASAP. Mainly I got into two wheeled transport for commuting and a larger capacity bike possibly would not suit my typical usage that well or deliver the economy that helped with selling the idea to my wife (please, no whip cracking sound effects at the back :p ). That said, if it is not a lot more difficult or expensive, I think I would rather do DAS, to keep options open.

Do the das. There shouldn't be much difference in cost and I think the school would probably advise you do das anyway. Nobody does and automatic driving test do they!

Yeah, I'm definitely not wanting to do it on an auto and am beginning to wish I had done my CBT on a manual. I was just being over cautious I guess.

Probably not going to get around to it until next year now but I will have a proper look into prices for DAS.

Question for those who have been on a 125cc prior to doing DAS - did any of you wear earplugs when doing the DAS training/MOD 2 test?

I always wear earplugs on my daily commute as the wind noise at anything above 30mph is annoying, and a whole day of that would do my head in, I suppose it depends on whether you can hear the instructors radio clearly.

I know I need to remember to swap out my visor for my clear one for the training/test too.

Take them with you and try it out. If you can't hear the instructor you'll have to put up with wind noise unfortunately. I did all my training without plugs.

After the first few miles the bonnie and I was satisfied engine sounded okay and i got some mirrors I put ear plugs in and the difference was staggering. I wouldn't ride without them now.

Yeah I don't ever ride without them in, doesn't help my Arai helmet isn't exactly know for its quietness!

Looks like I'll be doing my 3 day DAS in the middle of October, 4 weeks away :D

Just got back from my free big bike session, ride an NC700 for an hour or so, did the usual slow speed stuff and some 2nd gear stuff up to about 25-30mph.

Was all good, main thing thing I took from it was that I need to test ride lots of bikes before buying a big bike! The NC felt too small for me, my legs were folded up (don't think the low seat height helped) and I had a right numb arse after an hour on the bike :)

It's amazing how much better even a 50bhp bike feels over a 125 though :D

Had a 4 day DAS last week and passed! Really enjoyed riding a ER6-n, although it was a bit fidley keeping a constant speed at about 30. Found it best to change up to 4th or 5th to make it easier to control. Mod 2 was only 30 mins in the end as he said he was happy with my riding.

Really happy as I've wanted this licence since I was 17 (now 29) :D

Congrats! I'm doing my DAS course on an ER6 next week. :D

And I just got an ER6N hire bike:

It seems to be all about the ER6N today.

After taking the ER6N out for an hour, just get the SV650!

Handlebars, brakes, engine, stability, sound are all far better on the SV.

The only thing I think it has going for it is that the tank is very narrow if you need that, and the engine braking is far less severe than on the SV. I was not impressed at all.

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know. I'm glad the SV faired better tbh as I can't wait to get one
