How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

Mine won't do 1050 at stock and needs a fair bith of voltage to do 1100-1150. At which point the temps increase (Mine is 50 idle as I use 2 monitors - although will try the windows key + p trick to see if I can just run 1 montior and switch between the two) and goes up to 80+. Add to that a loud fan which I would say at a speed above 65% is annoying even when gaming with a headset I just don't think its worth it.

I'm trying to decide whether to return under DSR given the potential reduction in prices coming up on the 7950/7970. Hard to make a decision. Will be having a play over the weekend and awaiting new AMD prices before I make my decision on Monday.

Glad I wasnt the only one. Shipped mine back under dsr. Will give it a couple of months, mainly for driver support to be there for starcraft 2 and get a non-ref model probably.

I'm still struggling to uninstall CCC alone. There isn't a tick box to uninstall CCC from the catalyst manager.

I can't see an option to enable larger clock ranges like 555BUK mentioned on the first page.

As a first time OC'er what would be the best steps to take when upping the clock and voltage. This is my first time so I'm worried I'm gonna **** it up.

Managed to uninstall CCC and found the enhanced overclocking ranges :)

Now for the overclocking, like I said this is all new to me and I literally have close to no idea what i'm doing. What steps would you guys take if you were me ?

Bung it at 1200 core, 1.15V and give it a bash in Unigine. If it passes, give it a test in 3dmark. If it passes give it a test in Crysis 2 bench.

If it passes all 3 take it as stable :D

If it doesn't pass up the volts a tad and try again.

That's my heaven temps at stock.

Bumped up to 1200/5800 @ 1.15V, ran Unigine but it didn't take the overclock into account and the core clock was still at 860 during the benchmark. Installed CCC back to see if that was the problem but now I can't get past 1050 clock on GPU tweak. Confuuuuuuused :L

Did you Apply the clock after you set it? If you've installed CCC you'll need to unlock the limits again.

Hex, why are you running Heaven at 1680x1050?

That one was at 1680 as it was a comparison to one i'd run for the 2.5 thread, I did a run at both 1680 and 1920. All my benchies are in the original 7800 thread.

That's the 2.5 one, the 3.0 run is after it, and later on 1920x1080 benchies, 3dmark, and Crysis 2 :)

1080p one here by me @ 1050core: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=21573461&postcount=367

Yeah ofcourse, even with the enhanced overclock ranges the limit is 1050 with CCC installed so it looks like I'll uninstall CCC again but I've got a feeling the same thing that happened last time will occur again.
