How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

Really? Almost everything else I've read says to keep it below 80. Mine runs at about 71 degrees max.

That's just peoples personal preference. Even at 90C you aren't going to damage the card.

These things are rated to 105C for their thermal limits. So even at 90C you have a comfortable margin before it gets dangerous.

Obviously cooler is better, and go to whatever you are comfortable with. But don't panic if it goes over 80C, it won't just burst into flames :D

So you could theoretically boil water with them without damaging the hardware? Cool!

Hi all, just joined these forums because of this topic! Am on day 3 with two Sapphire 7850 OCs. Thanks to reading through here and using Asus Tweak Utility and after hours of testing Have settled on 1180/5500 1.176v-1180v. The memory clocks up to 5800 but anything over 5500 seems to lower the score in Unigine as others have found as a result of error correction perhaps?

!st run of 3DMark 11 in Extreme..

These things run cool!!

So far Ive found the Cat 12.3s better than 12.4s however am using latest CAP 12.4

My impressions so far coming from crossfirex Sapphire 5850 extremes are these cards ***** awsome! very pleased I choose them over the 7950 after comparing benchmarks and gaming performance, these are putting out better fps in BF3 than any single GPU card Ive seen, they also scale superbly as evident in Unigine Heaven with one card scoring in the 1300s and two scoring in the 2500s using @1180/5500 1.180v..

I always thought its better to overvolt the chip for 1 run of 3dmark, then undervolt it till the performance starts to drop down.

Everyone using Sapphire 7850 cards You dont need Asus Tweak, just adjust VDDC in Sapphire Trixx utility, be sure to disable ULPS before overclocking.

I've just deleted my Trixx ha.

The only reason being I was so used to GPUtweak having used both AB and Trixx.

I have had to download the 12.5 CAT betas as I am being blighted by complete random atikmdag.sys BSODs which for what I read, are driver related. I hope!.

Anyway its very frustrating as my card works completely flawless otherwise.

Thank you guys, i was lucky enought to find this forum, and it was clear for me I had to buy this card for my first new pc desktop.
Here its my contribution. From a newbie.

Hello,

first time poster here as well! I received my Asus 7850 DC2 yesterday and had some time to fiddle with it. My last card was a 4850, so even at stock speed i was blown away by its performance.

But oh boy, this card is such a beast once you start overclocking!

- i5 2500K @ 4,3GHz
- 8GB DDR3 1600
- Catalyst 12.4
- Sapphire Trixx (Asus and MSI let me down, max voltage and frequencies still too low even unlocked)

This is what i was able to achieve so far (max, this wont be 24/7):

3DMark11 - 7301
Heaven 3.0 - 1523

Price/Performance is out of this world if you ask me...this is a 47% overclock!!

It took 1.23V to survive Heaven this way. ASIC Quality is 86% btw.

I'm not liking the DC2 cooler so far, temperatures were okayish at best in my Coolermaster Cosmos S (45°C idle, 87° in heaven, 79°C in 3DM11) but the noise this thing makes under load is not what i was expecting! Going to replace it with the Accelero Extreme 7970 next weekend, hopefully this opens up 1300+ for benching.

By the way, with clocks above 1250 powertune seems to kick in, had to adjust +10% for 1275. But as i said, thats not going to be my 24/7 clocks.

I'm heading for 1200/5900 which is running stable at 1,17V, might be able to get the voltage even lower.

Thats it so far, greetings from germany!

Mighty fine over clock. Can't wait to get my own card..
Ordering MSI TF III next week, unless of course the Power Edition magically appears in stores before then, however unlikely that is.

Would any one of you fine folks mind running Unigine Heaven 3.0 benchmark @1680x1050?
Same settings as in the Heaven bench thread both at stock and overclocked.

I'm impatiently waiting for my 7850 to come into stock and would like to know what score to expect when it finally does arrive. I can only seem to find results for 1920 on Google.

Thanks a lot for that :)

Interesting. So at stock it's actually slower than my previous set up (2x 5770 scored 1100) but a 'moderate' overclock results in a 50% performance gain. Impressive. I guess this also translate across to games?

The MSI I'm waiting for is clocked at 900/1200 so I'm guessing I should be able to match your moderate OC at least.

Here you go.

Your stock heaven seems rather low... I get 1200 ish on stock.

(ignore the min fps, it was 29fps from one blip near the end where it hitched, if I ran it again it'd come back with 29fps min.)
