How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

I installed the BETA 12.5 cats after continuous random BSODs from atikmpag.sys. on 12.3 and 12.4 cats.

I have my voltage still set at 1.176v but have reduced my memory to 5500 from 5800.

I could probably attempt to reduce it further but I figure why bother when it hits the high 60's during gaming and idles in the low 30's.

I can say since this change I have had not one crash (touch hairy wood)

I cant see me having to upgrade for a good couple of years.

Well... i've just been doing some testing on my cards memory, as i've never bothered to go over 5800 before.

And... blimey... I think my cards memory is some seriously golden stuff! Currently sat at 6200MHz and still improving scores (so no error correction kicking in).

These are my average Heaven 3.0 (1080P, normal tess, 4x anniso, 4xAA) scores at various memory settings:

1225/5800 -- 59.6
1225/5900 -- 59.9
1225/6000 -- 60.2
1225/6100 -- 60.6
1225/6200 -- 60.9

Time to try 6300 :D

EDIT :: Crash at 6300. Looks like 6200 is my limit ^_^ Nice. I'll Run 6000 as my normal OC I think, but nice to know I have some extra for some benchmarking scores! Time to do some 1290/6200 tests :D

EDIT2 :: Seems like every 100MHz on the mem gives you a 0.33FPS boost. So don't be too worried if your mem doesn't OC that well. You aren't going to miss out on much.

That's the one. Tick that and next start it should apply and keep your OC settings even without it running.

Mine certainly does.

nope, mine must be running in the background, otherwise reverts back to stock speeds. oh well, i have enough RAM to handle that one lil bitty operation.

Are those voltages used against the memory clock speeds, or gpu clock speeds?

What temps are you getting during those scores?

I could overclock mine more just to hit 60FPS in Heaven, but I don't want the temperatures to go over 70 as an absolute maximum during load.

At least with Unigine running the memory over 5500 produces diminishing returns at best, as others have discovered as well. Its been a week today since picking these Sapph OCs up and after many hours of benching and testing 1.176/1.180 looks to be the sweet spot as others have discovered also..
Its also obvious that crossfiring these cards does limit the OC to a certain extent, the highest Ive managed stable (passes 5xUnigine runs) is 1210/5800 @1225v.
Have settled into 24/7 clocks now of 1150/5500 @1.168. Also seems CCC 12.3 and cap 12.3s have given these cards more success for overclocking than the 12.4s..

12.4s work great for me, except there is a conflict with my monitor and if it goes to sleep, it will not wake up...so i turned off that power-saving feature. otherwise they have been awesome for me. i had a lag problem after several hours of idle my FPS would drop about 30% with the 12.3s; it was completely relieved after the install of the 12.4s.

also i'm surprised about your memory readings. i get nothing but positive results the higher my memory clocks, though 5800 is as high as i would like to run them. sapphire oc edition as well.

My MSI 7850 TF III arrived today (new stock that came in yesterday)... I haven't had much time to get the best out of it, but I can't get it stable at 1180, even with the max voltage increase.

It's fine at 1150 with the details below though, which I'm not too unhappy with. Might try 1160/1170 when I get some more time, but it looks like my card isn't one of the best ones (was hoping for 1200. hey ho). Still, it could have been worse, I guess 1150 is still a decent overclock.

I'm running at 1920x1200 (i3570K at 4.0 (not finished that overclock yet either) on a Z77X-D3H). 12.3 drivers.

I have found that setting a user defined fan profile give much better results than just leaving the fans on auto. Currently running at 1200/5500 with only 1.155v. Temperatures max out at 56oC. Stable in Heaven, 3dmark11, Crysis 2 benchmark and a couple of hours playing Batman Arkham City.

Reading that inspires another go @12.4s , which Caps are you using?

Definately! running user defined @55% makes massive difference with temps compared to auto. Auto seems to only make sence @stock clocks or a light OC..

Interestly or dissapointly whichever way U see it, have shared my 7850 crossfire findings in Toms hardware with little responce, seems they are consumed by the "bad drivers/ buggy crossfire" myths which I find amusing considering no one appears to have actualy tested these new cards in crossfire with latest drivers..

I hadn't given much thought to the fans and temp. Will definitely try a different profile and see if I can reach 1200. Cheers.

That's core speed. I tend to run 1225MHz @ 1.17V as my day to day speed.

Now I have a good overclock value to fall back on,I'm going to see what it takes to get 60FPS in Heaven benchmark. :D

It's interesting how much extra juice the card needs for certain clock speeds. If I can get a 40% overclock I'll be well chuffed.

1290/5800 got me 61.7.

Assuming I run it again at 1290/6200 I'd guesstimate that i'll get around 63fps.

I'll give it a go tonight. That'll be the absolute max I can get out of my card then. I've wrung it dry :D

I really should post some of these heaven runs in the actual heaven thread :o
