How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

1290/5800 got me 61.7.

Assuming I run it again at 1290/6200 I'd guesstimate that i'll get around 63fps.

I'll give it a go tonight. That'll be the absolute max I can get out of my card then. I've wrung it dry :D

I really should post some of these heaven runs in the actual heaven thread :o

I think I've hit my cards limit.

MAJNU_TWEEKING_BENCH.png

Temp with 60% fan profile over 60 degrees which in my opinion is still at an acceptable level, unless someone wants to borrow me a decibel meter.

Resolution
1920X1080p 4AA.

When I overclocked above these speeds. I did manage to get 60.9 and 61.3 FPS, but then I noticed in Asus GPU Tweek that the GPU usage was spiking massively.

So I ran the benches for the overclocked settings for a 2nd and 3rd time and they would then show 57.6 and 57.3 FPS in Heaven. If I can somehow manage not to get these spikes then I think I can achieve 60+ FPS.

Do you have some advice if there is something I can do in Powertune maybe for this not to happen, or is my card at it's max limit? (Note I did up the GPU Voltage but it didn't make a difference)

P.S Yes we want to see your benches :p

Cheers

edit I've still yet to mess around with Virtu MVP, I wonder if that really does boost performance.

Hello everyone, my name is Fred from Montréal I just created an account to comment on this thread.

First of all thanks for sharing your experiences.

Second, I think the card I got is a super dud, as it doesn't really want to go above 1050Mhz on the core at 1.145v

I can run Unigine at 1050/5000, I then upped it to 1100Mhz and it crashed..

It's a Gigabyte 7850 OC, it runs very cool though (55 celsius at load iirc)

I am supposed to disable AMD overdrive right ? I did that and tweaked with Asus GPU Tweak. On catalyst 12.4

My 2 cents

Edit : Apparently I am a THUG lol, ok...:D

Hi mate and welcome to forums. Firstly its too early to say if your cards a dud as you haven't tried it out at a higher voltage. I'm assuming that 1.145v is stock voltage? If so, set to around 1.16v ish and start from there. Most cards here will need at least a small voltage increase to get 'em going, and it appears that a few of the sapphire cards do 1200/ 5800 at 1.185v or thereabouts, and some of the other cards will do that speed at that voltage as well, its just a case of finding your limits. General concensus here is that 1.225v volts is safe and you cant go any higher in asus tweak tool anyway. Keep the memory at stock for the time being and try for 1150 @ 1.16v and see how you get on. If it bombs out then try raising the voltage. Mine 'frnstance will only do 1175/ 5800 @ 1.185v for benching and 24/7, gaming etc, I run it at 1150/ 5800. Still a good overclock just not as good as some of the others here.
Don't forget to keep an ye on temps, but these cards will run fine at 80c apparently (so "Hex" reckons :))

Edit: We were all thugs once too :)

If anyone with a HIS IceQ wants to share their settings to get above 60FPS please feel free.

EDIT - Nope, I crashed in BF3. Going to but the Memory Clock back to 5900 and call it a day.

Hello pieman and thanks for your reply, the stock voltage is lower than that (isn't it 1.115v ? I'm at work so I can't check)

You are right that it is too early to declare it a dud as I haven't played much with higher voltages, I had a hard time finding a general consensus of what is a safe voltage so I stopped at 1.145v. I'm just saying this coz many people report better clocks at equal or lower voltages.

Still I'm not complaining as I this card plays my favorite games with great fps :

not the most astounding screenshot but, lots of action on screen and a solid 60fps :D

I don't know if it's bad but I have a lady coming to visit me tonight, I'm secretly hoping she changes her mind so I can tweak more !
(Well obviously she's not THAT hot else, you know lol)

Didn't have much time to play with my card since I got it haha

Consider that the 7870 (same core) is set to 1.218 volts at stock. At least 1.2 is safe for sure. Certainly the 7850 has a few less mouths to feed so to speak, but clearly the GPU core itself can handle the voltage.

Well I finally got around to having a play around with my HIS IceQ 7850 today and it's stable at 1200Mhz (actually stable at 1225Mhz) but it does seem the memory doesn't like to go above 5500Mhz even when I tried it with 1.2V. Oh and temps are excellent, hover around the mid fifties :)

Ahh well still plenty good enough for me, now all I need is a new mb/cpu!

I can't get the ASUS GPU tweak to increase the overclocking range. I've tried reinstalling my drivers (when I uninstall my screen goes blank and stays blank until I press the reset switch) with and without CCC and it is still locked down. I click on the advanced mode button, then go into settings and on the tuning tab I select GPU voltage and overclocking range enhancement and then reboot, but it's still locked to 1050 max GPU clock.

Any advice?

What version of the Asus Tweak software are people using, I have downloaded v2124 and I can't even see the option to enable voltage tweaking (this is on a HIS IceQ 7850 delivered and installed yesterday).

Edit@ Doh just found the advance button thing - have it now

Have you ticked the box to tell it to remember the settings on next start?

I've ticked that just now and rebooted, but still locked.

I also did a clear out of every AMD/ATI folder/file in my system and re installed version 12.4 of the drivers without installing CCC, and I'm still stuck at 1050 max on all versions of the ASUS GPU tweak software.

It just doesn't want to work. :(

Edit: Just to add, I have an open lock beside the Clock and Voltage slider which says that this function is only compatible with ASUS graphics cards.

I just thought I'd try Sapphire's "Trixx" software and it works! People who are having trouble with ASUS should try it.

Clocked at 1100mhz and stock Mem, I got a score of 1303 in heaven with 4x AA, normal tessellation at 1920 x 1080 res. Will keep testing.
