How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

You are correct. Heaven is just an indicator of stability. You will need to test in other games to ensure complete stability. Crysis 2 is a good test as it's very hard on the card.

In other news, had a go at getting a heaven bench at 1290/6200 but it wasn't having it. Doesn't like running the high memory AND high GPU at the same time unfortunately.

So I've settled for 1225/6000 @ 1.17V as my day to day OC.

I noticed my FPS is far off from your previous results. I only yield 53.1 FPS at 1225/6000 @1.185v, does this means my i5-3450 is bottlenecked?

3DM11 is no good for testing, it doesn't push the card enough. Heaven is good as an indicator. But to really test you need to get it looping Crysis2 or BF3 or the like. Some actual in game benchmarking.

I find personally that Crysis2 is the best test of stability. If it can finish 10 loops of that then you're good.

Ok nice one, I'll give crysis a go. Last time I played it was on my laptop so it will be nice to see it in all it's glory :D

I'm getting 56fps on heaven on 1200/1250 @ 1.160v so maybe your memory is too high, try bumping it down 50mhz and see if the fps goes up.

I've got a 3570k and I can't see there being that much of a difference.

My test was with my CPU @ 4.4, so there are probably a couple of points in the test where a bit of extra CPU grunt would raise your fps. Might be time to start work on your CPU OC :D

That 3570K should do 4GHz on stock volts easy enough.

Anywho, as for Crysis2, yeah you could just go play it, or you could download the benchmark tool, max out the settings and just let it loop until you're happy its working fine.

See HERE

I'm not a OC person TBH and I just happen to find out that OC'ing the gfx card is so easy so just wanna try what's the limit of my card on a 3450 :)

Anyway I seem to be having problem the with benchmark tool for Crysis 2. It's saying that access is denied to my system.cfg , any idea how to fix this?

My fps drops after bring my memory down. It's still in the 51+ fps range after I set it to 5300mhz and dropped to 49.7 at 4800mhz

I dunno then mate, it's my first time doing this properly too :)

Seems strange that you'd have a lower fps than me with a higher Core and higher Memory though.

After all this, it bows down to me that the CPU speed plays a major role as well  your 3570k stock speed is definitely faster than my 3450, so I guess the 300mhz extra helped?

I wouldn't have thought that the 3450 would slow it down by 3-4fps, it's not exactly a slow processor.

Have you got Virtu MVP on your PC?

I'm using a Asus P8H77-M LE board, I think it got the gpu boost function or something like that. But TBH 3-4fps don't affect me a lot too ;)

Well once I've done this coursework I'll do two runs through heaven with Virtu MPV on then off and see if it makes a difference.
