How to overclock a 7850 past 1050MHz?

Yeah, it looks like we've had pretty identical cards. Possibly even from the same batch. I'm not disappointed with the fps in heaven (it seems a bit high compared to others posted here?) but the overclock so far seems a bit pedestrian...

It's high as you had tesselation off from what I can see ;)

Sorry, guys, because maybe is a noob question, but..

How a CPU brand/model/architecture influences in Heaven's scores??..
I mean, I have my 955 OCed at 3.95 and the most I got it was this:

FPS: 46.6
Scores: 1173
Min FPS: 23.5
Max FPS: 100.4

Settings:
Render: direct3d11
Mode: 1920x1080 4xAA fullscreen
Shaders: high
Textures: high
Filter: trilinear
Anisotropy: 4x
Occlusion: enabled
Refraction: enabled
Volumetric: enabled
Tessellation: normal

ASIC value: 78.2%

But, seeing above results, CPU's with less "core Speeds" gets better results..
My card is at 1200/1400 @ 1220mV, so it's not as default..
Am I doing something wrong??.. Is my logical, un-logical??... ;)

Best regards.. :)

I dont believe Heaven does show CPUs true clocks - mine is OCed to 4.3GHz, but is shown as 3.3Ghz in Heaven. I think your score is ok for 1080 res, same settings for 1050 would get you 50+ fps, so no reason to worry i dont think.

Are you running these 7850 clocks 24/7?

Haha, oops. Redoing...

Edit: This seems more sensible.

Only in games and bench's.. For 2D scenarios, I set things to default.. No need to have it OCed when surfing the net/watching movies/playing music.. ;)

But I was wondering more the influences than the showing.. I mean, no matter how my settings are (3840x1080, 1920x1080, 1200/1400, 1100/1300, etc), my scores aren't near those showed above by the rest of you, guys..

I mean, if the program only stresses GPU, shouldn't two GPUs (no matter the brand, I think) at 1200/1400 and same settings in the program behave almost the same???.. Having similar scores??.. Like 1100 one guy, and another 1040-1050 or 1140-1150???..

Lack of logic in my words??.. Or doesn't even matter, like you say, Borsch???..

Best regards.. :)

Using the new 12.6 Beta Driver and 12.6 CAP. Running at 1170 VDDC (Volts).

No Virtu MVP Enabled, Actually I uninstalled it completely as it started to give varied results whilst gaming when I had 12.3 Drivers.

No need to to remove OC for movies, internet etc - the card drops clocks automatically and saves energy when your pc is not doing much gfx wise. Once I find a stable OC at temps that I am comfortable with, I just leave on permanently.

As for scores - yeah, yours are a bit strange. Not too much, but still...:o

@majnu

Scores like yours make me doubt my decision to overlook 7850 in favour of 580. :) Do you run these clocks 24/7, are they ok in actual games?

Yes they are my daily 24/7 clocks since they are only at 1.17V and max heat is 65 degrees with a 40% fan profile.

I've not had a chance to test out all games yet since the drivers only came out yesterday.

When I'm using the newest ASUS GPU Tweak, I get a gsod, but with Trixx the voltage wont go down in 2d mode so it always stays at 1.78. Any idea what's the problem?

What do you think the maximum 24/7 clock would be on the MSI R7850 Power Edition?
My MAXIMUN stable clock was 1125MHx on the core @ 1.225v with the MSI PE. By comparison my reference Powercolor card matched that at just 1.050v, and did 1260MHz @ 1.225v. With a BIOS flash to allow 1.3v and an aftermarket cooler the Powercolor does 1325MHz rock stable and could complete 3DMark11 and Heaven @ 1400MHz (far from stable).

The MSI PE cards are NO BETTER than any other card. To get a decent overclocker is pure luck of the draw because the main determining factor is the GPU, and none of the manufacturers cherry pick 7850's.

ASIC quality provides a reasonable pointer to how good the GPU is. I have owned 3x 7850's with the following ASIC's.
*VTX 7850 86.2% (Awesome overclocker)
*Powercolor 7850 84.9% (Awesome overclocker)
*MSI PE 7850 72% (utter pants)

What really irks me about the MSI PE card is that it cost me £30-£40 more than my other two cards and promissed much about overclocking on the box, yet fell MASSIVELY BELOW the performance of the cheaper cards. There is no point in spending extra money for the MSI card when there is zero guaratee of better overclocks.

edit: My MSI PE was DSR'd (returned) due to being so poor. I didn't buy it here, so be careful about about picking up any "b-grade" or "good as new" MSI PE's if you see them on offer elsewhere. If it was a reference card that performed so poorly I would have accepted it. However, this cards main selling point was it's superior overclocking ability, quote: "up to 45% overclocks" which were nowhere near reality. Will never buy an MSI "premium" card again.
