HP LP2475w, IPS 24" Official Thread! (Now Available from OcUK)

Your eyes adapt pretty quickly and most people don't notice the increased gamut after a while. Movies look fine here.

Maybe i'm looking to much into it but over on another forum(some sort of photography forum) they have a similar thread and a good few people are saying this "wide gamut" is a problem when not in colour managed applications such as games, movies and general desktop use. Maybe its because they have a keen eye for colour representation.

So you have no colour issues at all? Have you played any games. A good way to see if there is a difference would be to open a page in IE and FF3(with color management enabled) and see what the difference is, if any at all.

This is the only thing putting me off this monitor but cant get a straight answer from any source. Everywhere has people moaning and other people praising it.

This is true. It also poses a problem for anything plugged into the monitor besides the PC, such as the PS3 via HDMI. There's obviously no way you can maintain the original colour gamut with these applications, which isn't helped by the lack of a true sRGB mode.

Nevertheless, the picture quality was amazing. I preferred the wide gamut for some games, in fact, since it gave all the fine details some disctinction.

Lack of true sRGB is exactly what I've been saying from day one after getting this monitor and then going back to the Hazro, even post and pre calibration!

Well it does have sRGB mode BUT in sRGB mode it still displays the full AdobeRGB gamut (measured using Lacie BlueEye Pro) which means they implemented the OSD option but not the output for it at all. The backlight gets dimmer yes but the colour range it outputs is the same.

I don't think it's possible to do an sRGB emulation on a screen like this without the fully programmable LUT that the NEC 26" has, you can't just do a simple dial down of the saturation on the RGB channels.

Had my HP a couple of months now and have no complaints. Games, movies and text all perfect. Very happy with the purchase. And if I had the same money to spend all over again, I would make the exact same choice. :)

So you got this screen for everyday use and not specifically photoshop or photography reasons and you cant see any problems? Have you compared 2 monitors side by side to see if there is a difference at all?

Correct. I see no problems. The monitor is excellent and great value for money. If I was doing colour critical work in Photoshop - which I don't, and have this mentioned elsewhere in the thread - I'd be looking at a professional display costing many times the price of the HP. Either that or buying a calibrator for the HP.

Like I and the other poster - and we both own the HP - have said: for games, movies, text, etc. this monitor is terrific, probably the best in it's price range at the moment. I'm very happy with it. Worth every penny it cost. :)

Well. Got one of these a couple of days before Chrimbo.
I won't name the retailer.. but £380 inc VAT delivered :) I love OC, but £60 is £60 I'm afraid.

Verdict...
Stunning piece of kit.
No dead pixels. No sign of any pink>green tint. The over saturation is noticable in some pictures but not overly so. You kinda get used to it.

As stated before, I've been after a new monitor for almost 2 years now.. and have tried various top-rated TN panels, and they all stunk. This is in a different league. I'm just so relieved at finally finding a decent piece of kit.

The only downer for me is the HP Display Assistant software.
I installed from the disc and it worked, but demanded I updated it to the latest version. Which I did.. and then it just wrecked my system. Massive graphics corruptions and blue screen of deaths until I managed to uninstall it via a system restore and completely reinstalled the graphics drivers.
Just doesn't seem to like my gfx setup.
Nvidia 8800GT with latest drivers.

Other than that... very chuffed :)

I also got mine for £380 so I imagine it was the same place!

I have question to those who have one of these. I was reading through the manual (as i ran out of reading material on the throne, as you do) in there it mentions on page 33:

sRGB Support
The monitor is designed to support sRGB for color management, which adapts to the color standards
used in the image technology industry.
To take advantage of the sRGB support, you will need to change the monitor’s color temperature to
sRGB and install the sRGB color profile (ICM) file.
NOTE: The sRGB color temperature preset will improve the color accuracy of sRGB images on the
computer monitor, but some color variation may still occur.

Has anyone actually installed the drivers and the 2 colour profiles that are on the disc?

I have installed these drivers and im using the lp2475w ICM profile as the default monitor profile in "Display Properties". Also droped the brigtness down to 35 and contrast to 40. I havnt notice the "washed out" colours others have experienced.

Also when using it with xbox360 VGA & Component IMO it looks really nice with colours that are crisp and vibrant.

Can someone try out this feature please . In the OSD / management menu there is an option to switch off the bezel led. If I turn it off and then save and return the led goes off. But when I power the monitor off and then on the power led comes on and stays on , yet in the menu it has remembered its setting.
This would be a useful feature as the LED is quite bright for me. At the moment a piece of blu tak over it does the same job , but would like to know if other owners monitors behave the same way or is it just my one.

Hi Joey,

I have just tried the LED problem you describe. Unfortunatetly, it is the same on mine too. It looks like you will have to stick (sorry!) with the blue-tack for now. I presume that my monitor has the very latest firmware too, it was made December 2008 - I have recently received it as a replacement for one (made June 2008) that had the colour shift and 1 dead pixel. I must say, that despite this monitors (few) problems, and all monitors seem to have their own set nowadays, the HP support for this monitor is absolutely outstanding. As Philjohn says, forget the DSR or paying extra to buy this thing from a reputable company with good returns policies, as HP will take very good care of you.:D

What firmware rev do you have on yours, the LED option is fine on mine (GIG 032)
