HP LP2475w, IPS 24" Official Thread! (Now Available from OcUK)

just a little feedback since i bought mine in october.

5 months on now, 7 hours a day, problems 0.

not bothered to calibrate it, yes the reds are too harsh but even this being the case it is so far better than any monitor i have seen anywhere that calibrating it hasn't even made it on my to-do list. :p
i also don't need a calibrated monitor as for my photography i am used to getting colours right without photoshop.

factory calibration only seems to negatively affect pure reds. it doesn't 'redify' a normal photo, only enhances the red areas. the rest of the factory calibration seems ok to me- better than any printed photo i've seen. like i said earlier if you look at a studio photo or at a good piece of graphic design the quality it blows you away e.g. http://www.nightstarmovies.nl/logo_fanta_orange.jpg

only the best quality images come close to pushing this monitor. you'd have to get hold of some tiffs from an amazing photographer to be missing quality reproduction, and you'd have to print on one ludicrously fine printer to print higher quality than you see on screen. in short, if you want colour accuracy higher then calibrate it and you'll get colours better than the average joe would see anywhere- cinema, magazine, billboard. i struggle to think where i have or if i have seen better colour.

:)

p.s. if the minute amount of lag bothers you, perhaps you have OCD ;)

p.s. half the time i use the monitor looking at it at 45 degrees. this may sound odd but if i've been watching a movie in bed i rotate it towards the bed. i normally leave it facing that way for a week or more as i just can't tell the difference when sat back at my desk. :D

can't find this. are you sure it's on page 9?

Page numbers are different for most people as you can set the forum to display more posts per page.

Check post number 302.....

My pleasure, if you want some "instant gratification" with the colours, try the following (cannot remember what forum these were on, either here or on the red and black one):

HP-LP2475w-Profile_C-82_B-12__D65-2.2-120-0.20_.rar

Follow the settings in the word document or text file, and use the ICC profile with a LUT loader like the following (their website has recently gone down, so I'm posting a RS link to it, it's freeware though, so hopefully no foul): LUTManager_setup_1.1.0.45.msi

These profile and settings (at least on my panel) are the best I've come across and will do me until I can get an Eye One Display LT (most places seem out of stock at the mo with 2 month lead times).

Anybody know what HP are like with returns if I buy direct?

I've noticed they sell it as a business model, so distance selling doesn't apply.

HP support is very good, based out of Ireland so no running through a script to diagnose problems. I think distance selling regs still apply as you are a consumer, not a business, it's just sold by their business/workstation division as not many home users are going to buy an IPS monitor.

Thanks for the feedback philjohn. Looks like there terms and conditions differ between the home and business stores. I'll call them on monday and see what they say.

I'm just concerned if I get dead/stuck pixels it will be difficult to get my money back.

I bought an HP LP2475 on 22nd February, the screen I got had firmware 045, however it had a bug in it, in that 2 settings would not save when exiting the menu, HP admitted that this was a "bug" with the firmware, and declared it DOA, and sent me another in the early part of this month, with the same firmware AND the same bug. They made no attempt to send me a firmware fix that I could apply myself, but wanted a Dutch comp. to pick my monitor up, take it too Holland and fix it, which the guy said would take 2 weeks! This offer I declined, and told him to get HP Support to ring me, anyway, I eventually spoke to HP Customer Services, and told them that their handling of this issue was abysmal, and if they could not guarantee that the next replacement monitor would be bug free, that they might as well refund my money, which is what happened.

So I have now ordered an NEC LCD24WMGX3, which should arrive on Monday, the HP LP2475 also being picked up on Monday.

It is a great shame that the HP Support (in this instance) simply failed completely, as the HP LP2475 is an excellent monitor!

Anyone care to explain the difference between part number KD911AT#ABB and KD911AT#ABY?

The price is almost the same.

Same model, different prices (cheaper is the "promotional" one and the more expensive is that sold to businesses which has a built-in margin to allow them to "get a deal").

o.k took the plunge and ordered one!

What are the faults I should be looking out for?

Don't! If a fault doesn't immediately jump out at you why bother looking hard for one?

If you really insist - look first for dead pixels, HP has a zero dead pixel guarantee so they'll give you a DOA form for the retailer (or swap it out themselves, your choice). Only other problem people have seen is a color temp shift from warm (right) to cool (left) which should sort itself after the backlight has burnt in properly - 50-100 hours or so (that will probably take you past DSR time, but will be covered under SOGA).

After havng gone through ALL of the top monitors I settled on this one and I can safely say this monitor really blows everything away, first I actually installed the HP software but I have found I actually prefer just calibrating it by using the OSD So I uninstaled the software.

The white is really white and the black really black, and the colours look amazing (although it does take a ittle whle to get used to the wide gamut, now I actually prefer wide Gamut.

The build quality is second to none,

totally recommended, buy it now!
