HP LP2475w, IPS 24" Official Thread! (Now Available from OcUK)

Well, I just got tired of waiting so I ordered 2 LP2475Ws, and a Dell 2408WFC, which all arrived today. One of the 2475s seems to have the same problem, perhaps less so than the one I returned last year. But the other one has much less of a tint and, weirdly, what tint it does have is the opposite way round to the usual - pinker on the left. But now I've turned it down to a sensible brightness it's almost completely even. Still not *perfect*, but then this isn't an LCD2690WUXi costing almost twice as much :)

So, I have one LP2474W and one 2408WFC to return under DSR. Given that I'm now happy with my HP I'm wondering whether to even bother unpacking the Dell to try it... it is an MVA panel, after all...

Well in that case, **** it, I'm leaving the box sealed! I'll stick with my ugly H-IPS instead :)

The Dell is very nicely designed, but it's all about the panel at the end of the day.

Got my replacement far better than the last. Still can see it very slightly, has 045 firmware with the bug but I can live with that. Was going to go for the nec 2470, but going to leave it as this is nearly half the price!

Just going to get on a enjoy the panel now.

Thanks for the feedback everybody.

What firmware revision is yours mate?

@nigel1210:

I would say that I do not have the green/pink tint issue, and that is speaking as someone who most definitely had it on a previous unit. As I said, it does seem to have a *very slight* one (and I put this down to acceptably imperfect uniformity for the price point, as it really is only noticeable when I deliberately look for it), but the opposite way round to the usual, and with the brightness turned down to a sensible level it is even less visible, and I'm now perfectly happy with my monitor. I've currently got 9 hours backlight use racked up, am keeping my fingers crossed that it stays as it is!

My firmware is GIG045, and the backlight doesn't stay off. I don't care about this, frankly, given that I've got a 24" H-IPS for just over £400 - I'll just stick something translucent over it that cuts out the majority of the piercing glare!

Has anybody purchased one recently and not had the green/pink tint issue?

Yes, mine didn't have that issue. Notice, however, that I brought it from a reseller in Denmark.

A few things I noticed though:

1. At default color values, the screen is EXTREMELY green and EXTREMELY bright. This could be sorted out just using the OSD to change the values.

2. When I turned the bezel LED off using the OSD, it would turn on again if the monitor had been turned off. I guess it's the same problem as you have been talking about?

3. At times, very noticeable whining / electrical buzzing.

Because of 3. I sent it back to the reseller.

A shame really, it's an amazing monitor. Very pleasant to use even for multiple hours in a row. I think I might order another one and hope it doesn't whine as much.

Hi ! Long time lurker, first time poster here

:)

I bought myself one of these from OcUK a few months ago, as an upgrade to a Viewsonic VP201s, which was no slouch !

So far i am very happy. The monitor is well built and solid, great stand. The looks are subdued but professional and clean. Great selection of inputs, and the necessary leads in the box. But most importantly, the quality of the image is great.

I calibrated with a Pantone Huey Pro (couldn't really justify a higher end calibration device !) and i was a very happy man. Great colours, nicely saturated, but not over the top. Good black level and a nice even backlight. Also, negligible input lag, which i was concerned about prior to upgrading.

Only one slight mark against its name, and it's the good old green-pink tinge on an all white screen. It's only slight though, and not often noticeable.

It has one stuck, not dead, pixel (i believe they are classified differently) which unfortunately isn't covered by the no dead pixel policy as i understand, as it is not dead, just stuck. Is this right ?

So, not perfection, but pretty damn good. Overall one very happy customer !

:D

Anyone used this monitor with an xbox 360? Specifically I'm trying to find out if it accepts a 1080p signal via component input, or whether it's limited to 1080i like the Dell 2407WFP.

Hi everyone =)

Got my LP2475W a week ago, and immediately noticed something was wrong. So searching the web I found this forum topic and also a name for this thing that was wrong. green-to-pink-tint.

I used the monitor for around 170 back light hours but it didn't change anything. Read somewhere (cant find where exactly) it could be because of cheap components powering the back light causing DC offset, which plagued a particular hardware version of this screen, GIG111.. one I had..

The monitor was assembled by March 11th (according to HP.. they seem to have everything about every single thing documented, very impressive :P but also expected for such a large company) They asked me if they wanted my reseller to send a new one or they could do it themselves, so tomorrow or the day after tomorrow I'll have a new one from HP :) Hopefully not GIG 111, but a newer or older one. Very good costumer support there! =) (this was HP support in Sweden)

This is my first TFT without any back light bleeding at all! And after calibration and a reasonable brightness level (one that doesn't burn your eyes out) it's like reading a piece of paper! Very relaxing! I had a TFT before, Samsung 2232BW which had TERRIBLE back light bleeding and Left 4 Dead was totally unplayable since everything black around the edges and 2-3 inches in had a blue glow to it. That scared me more than zombie hunters :S

This is something I will try as soon as I have my new "working" monitor assembled and running :D Although I'm not sure the 360 is able to send 1080p over component because of copy right protection not working over that sort of connection. Cable length might be an issue too.. hm.. I think I got it working on my LG plasma though so I might be talking bull crap.. but I'll try with this HP when I get the new one!

It's definitely available as a setting in the 360 dashboard, whether it is limited when doing HD-DVD playback, I'm not sure, but that's not an issue for me anyway, I'm just using it for gaming.

Are they good for gaming ?

In my eyes, yes. Sure, there are faster screens out there in terms of input lag, so some may rather stick with their CRT or 0ms TN panels. However, the input lag on this monitor is minimal, too little to notice without actually measuring. Other than that, great colours, deep blacks for an ips panel, no ghosting (to my eyes) make it a real winner.

:)

Just in case anyone needs to know, this monitor does support 1080p via component, since I went ahead and got one anyway.

Awww I received my replacement head unit today and was just about to try out :p

Anyway, got the new head unit and even though it's the same hardware version GIG111 it was a completely new and alien firmware version, check it out.

068

I've got an old CRT at home.. maybe I should..

The green to red tint is gone. Maybe there's just a little there.. I cant decide, and when I cant decide it's usually not there so yay! :p I also feel the black lvl is slightly improved on this one, but we'll see when darkness falls

I have shut the power led off to see if it'll stay off like it failed to do with my previous head unit with firmware 045.

Time to try out my 360 on it!

No complaints so far. I have it hooked up next to my 2407WFP so I'm finally back to dual screens, which is great for coding.

What exactly is the pink/green problem? I have to confess I've not read this monster of a thread. My firmware version is GIG 045 if that's of any significance.
