HP Microserver+XPEnology

So it looks like Synobox has disappeared, and the website has gone down, so I can't reinstall via the repository.

I know a few of you use download station, so I have registered with No-IP for a free account, and set up in the Synology, but I still can't connect. :(

Any ideas?

I had plex installed on 4.3, installed V5 and it just worked no messing around.

I think I formatted my drives and started from scratch which is why it may have been difficult. It didn't create all of the required folders, etc, which I guess would have already been set up for you from an upgrade.

That's good to know though for future upgrades :)

Are you just looking for DropBox integration? If so, it's supported natively in Cloud Sync Beta in the Multimedia section.

If you want to set up the DDNS anyway then you need to make sure you are forwarding the ports from your router to the correct IP address. Also if you set up the firewall on the server you will need to let it through there.

You can test that the DDNS service is working by opening up a command prompt and pinging the NO-IP address. If it resolves an IP address then it's just a matter of letting the traffic through your router/firewall.

Yeah, that's it. Just need dropbox to be honest, but I'm hesitant to move to the beta in case I lose my data. I have read it has happened to a few people. Certainly more than when people more from 4.2 to 4.3 for example. I would be happy to move to 5 when it gets to a full release stage, but now when it's still in beta.

Can you advise what ports I'll need to forward, please?

It depends on what services you want (I have a few ports open for different thing like DSM, SABnzbd, Sickbeard, etc) but the default port for download station is port 5000(TCP).

You can find a list of ports here: http://www.synology.com/en-uk/support/faq/299

That's brilliant mate - thank you so much! What ports do you open for SABnzbd, please? Is it possible to SABnzbd remotely using DDNS? This would be the absolute dream if possible!

All I am effectively wanting to do is queue up an nzb for download while I am not in the house :)

I think SAB defaults to port 8080 but you can check this in Config>General>SABnzbd Port

Then there are a couple of ways (that I know of) to remotely start a download.

The first is directly from an Indexer site. I some Usenet Index sites allow you to input your server details. So you'll need the DDNS name and port (http://myserver.no-ip.org:8080/ for example) and you'll need the SAB API key (which is found in Config>General>API Key) and then there will be a button on the Indexer site which will let you push it straight to SAB. I know this works for NZBgeek and DOGnzb. I don't think it works with omgwtfnzbs though.

You can do it via apps as well (I use NZB360 although it recently got pulled from the Play Store for unknown reasons but the new website should be up this weekend I think) for which you just put in details of SAB/SB/CP/HP and the Indexer details and it allows you to manage it all from your phone.

Another way would be to set up a folder on your server which SAB scans for new NZB files frequently. I haven't done this but I don't think it's too hard to set up.

You little beaut sk82jack! I've found and installed an apk for NZB 360 v7.2 Build 58. After googling, I note the dev is having issues, but once he is back up and running again, I will ensure I will purchase the app to enable me to get all the updates :)

If using the app, do I even need to set up DDNS? Does WOL work using the app if I have inputted the correct MAC into the vender file? This is very exciting as it looks, at first glance at least, this is exactly what I was after in terms of remote access!!! :D

Glad you're getting on with XPEnology Dean :)

I use the built in downloader and DS downloader app to go with it.
I use no-ip for ddns it's easy to setup from a pull down menu in XPEnology. As for WOL you have to turn it on, again easy.

Yeah I had to do the same thing since it got pulled just before I wanted it too. As soon as it goes live I'll buy it but using probably the same one as you at the moment!

You will still need DDNS (unless you already have a fixed IP from your ISP which I would imagine is unlikely). When you enter your details you can put in a local address and a remote address and separate them with a comma (I think it tells you this in the app too) but the remote address will need to be the DDNS address. I use no-ip too and I agree with Deuse - it's easy to set up.

Dunno about WOL - I keep mine on 24/7 so I've never looked into it but after briefly looking at NZB 360 it doesn't look like it will support remote WOL although there are other apps that do. You just need to set up port forwarding again.

Hi guys,

I have just set up my N40L with DSM 5.0 and updated successfully thanks to deuse and SK82JACK instructions.

My first question is that if I am not bothered about WOL, and because I have updated successfully, should I still be looking at sorting my MAC address out? If so, is the procedure the same as for 4.2/4.3?

Second question is, I have setup a NOIP DNS but the DS download app gives me an error telling me to update to DSM 4.0 or above and Download station to 3.2 or above. Any ideas?

Cheers

Yes it's the same. I would set WOL then you have your true mac addy and you can set your router
up so that the Nas has the static IP ect.

I'm on android with the latest download app and all is ok. What you can try is instead of putting your ddns
address is,try putting in your IP address and see if that work's. Also down load the No-Ip app for the PC and run it.

Come back and let us know how you get one :)

edit=and someone maybe using the same mac addy so best to change it.

Just to give you chaps both a quick update. We are full systems go! :D

After messing around with DDNS settings in my Plusnet modem/router and adding the relavant ports to be forwarded I can now access SABnzbd from anywhere on my mobile!!! I also put the DDNS details into DS finder - and that works as well!!! Thank you both ever so much for your guidance (and more importantly, patience!) Amazing! :D:D:D

My only issue is I can't get WOL to work. If I go to settings in DSM, then select the first ethernet adaptor (this is the one I've changed to the proper MAC using that tool) it just throws up an error, and basically says 'no'. I can't remember what the error is exactly, but it just refuses. :(

Any ideas?
